It's tough to be an star in this tough economy, it's really really hard to be a commercially successful Arab star in 2011, music piracy aside, everything is so political this year and with great instability and increased rate of causalities comes nothing good for entertainers.
But this offers a great opportunity for young stars to put out their work, the big name stars cannot afford to risk their albums not selling--they have too much at stake. So 2011 is the year of the Arab indie stars and single releases. All the big names are taking a break of sort. Here comes Rahama Riyad.
This young voice from Iraq who left the popular star academy show with a great name and a high likability has so far released two singles, the first was an instant hit that offered romance and drama in the Lebanese dialect. Now comes her second single and naturally it's in the Gulf dialect that Rahama is prepared for. She did release a song for the Asia cup late but that song did not go far. I think Rahma has some smart people advising her and some heavy backers who like her voice and charisma.
