Amr Diab is a Big Fat Idiot

More than a week ago, the King of Arabic pop Amr Diab, the Egyptian singer who is larger than life made a statement, "I will be releasing an old song of mine, they was banned by the Mubarak Censorship authority" The promised song is title Been AlHader Weil Maddy "In Between the Past and the present" I was like C'mon Amr this is not going to fly.

But now we find out that there has never been a song with that title and worse, it has never been submitted for review. Said Khattab, the head of the censorship authority in Egypt said he looked into this claim and asked around in the office, there is not file or documentations to support Amr Diab claims. Link

This was an attempt by the King of Arabic pop to make nice with the protesters, while he never bothered to comment on the revolution, some reports stated he ran away to London. Not the best PR move, so the revolutionaries did not like the singer who commends a very large and a vocal fan base. (read more here)

Hany Mahany, a fellow musician who has worked with Diab and knows him well, added his voice to this debate, "The Amr diab I know does nothing for free", "He us trying to make nice with the fans, not becasue that Diab is driven by his love of country", "throughout his history he has been discounted from the people, never once has he done something for the people or the country." Mr. Mahany also reminded that the singer was a good friend of some in the Mubarak regime including the two sons of Mubarak who consider him a friend. Mahany sounds like a guy who knows his stuff. "This does not make sense, no one would censor Amr Diab he knows people" (Read more here)

On another front, composer Mohammad Diaa commented, Amr has been silent for a long time on the revolution. Before he sings for the fallen (like Amer Diab did) he ought to be singing to Egypt first. The composer has also stated that he does not believe the stories about the Amr Diab censored song. (read more here)

On positive news Amr Diab working with his own Radio network launched a new campaign to help promote tourism in Egypt. The campaign is titled Masry Bigad, 'Egyptian for Real" to spread awareness on the advantages of tourism and how to help give a positive image of Egypt. That would have been the smart thing to do instead of making up stories about being a phony "victim" of the past regime. (read more here)

Just today he issues a statement that he has nothing to do with this song, denying that he ever said anything about a censored song of his. I think that was the smartest thing he has done. (link)
