Where Are Those Tunisian Celebrities?



Tunisian Stars are all over the Arab world, and when those stars see what is happening in their country, they gave us different reactions, here is what we know so far:

  1. Tunisian Native actress Hind Sabry (هند صبري) was busy on her facebook during the riots, asking for peaceful resolution and not using live ammunition. Then the President ran away and Hind Sabry wrote on her Facebook that she was against the Tunisian dictator, even thought she signed on a petition asking him to run again. Sure, she says she was forced to do it, then she said she feared for her family. Reaction have been mixed to Hind's take on this matter. (Read More Here)
  2. Tunisian busy actress Dorra (درة) was the winner of this media battle. She refused to sign the petition to re-nominate the dictator, when she was asked to do so. She even encouraged her friend Tamer Hosny to record and release a song for Tunisia. Then few days later, she took the first plane to Tunisia to check up on her family and friends, she is currently there. Dorra was the boldest Tunisia voice that was with the people all the way and did not try to walk the middle way (read more here) (Here)
  3. Tunisian Romance and pop singer Saber Roba'e (صابر الرباعي) was quite for few days, then he came out with a press releases that is is suspending all his activities out of respect for his country men and the troubles that are taken place at his home. I like Saber he is a wonderful artists, but what activities is he suspending? I have not seen or heard of him in few months now. (Read more here)
  4. Latifah, the most famous voice from Tunisia, and the one with the longest history in the entertainment business was not all over the airwave, she was silent and watched things unfold in her country. I do not doubt that she was a favorite by many. She now says she has not slept in four days, she is hoping the airports will open so that she can go home. Throughout the whole ordeal she had this to say on her website "Tunisia is in the My Heart, May god protect Tunisia and its people" (Read more Here) Some people have interpreted her as a fan of the dictator, so she issued a press release in favor of the Tunisian revolution. She went further, she named her nephew Bu 'Azizi, the name of the Tunisian street vendor who set himself on fire and Tunisia followed suit. (Read here)
  5. No one knows what Ahmed El Charif think about the trouble in Tunisia, he has not made a statement and no one seemed to report on his situation. He is in Lebanon as far as we can tell.
  6. Tunisian Amani Swissi issued a statement in favor of the people of Tunisia and respecting them for their choice and offed support for her people at those dire times. She stated that she is worried about the aftermath of the riots and the looting taking places in the cities and towns of her country. She is praying for her people and country, she knows they are civil people. Although her website still has her picture with the Tunisian dictator giving her an award. (Read more here)
