Samih Coukeir Takes His Freedom Songs To Paris

Syrian singer who wrote the first song that put the Bashar force into shame for their practices in Syrian cities like Daraa. This is Samih Choukeir, and his music were the guest of Paris. In the early 90s, Samih settled in Ukraine to pursue his studies at The Higher Music Institute of Kiev. Yet, he continued to perform on most of the Eastern-European stages.

Samih told tales of Syria and Arabia about the revolutions and the abuses. He is the singers that other singers watch. His sense of commitment to the causes he sings about is hard to miss. Most of the fans in that Paris concert hall were older Palestinians who know this man and his music since the 70s and 80s.

Samih was loud in his call to stop the violence in his songs for the various Arab causes. His music has also been rather fresh and intriguing to non Arabic speaking. I came to thank him for his art and his bold stands and Ahmed Dari deserves a shout out for documenting this moment.
