Balkis, The Next Big Yemeni Thing

she is the daughter of Yemen's most celebrated musician Ahmed Fathy--the one who supported the Yemeni revolution early on. But this is about Balkis, the entertainer, not the daughter. She is not the first Yemeni pop star, Arwa made waves before her. Balkis is doing different things, she is focused on the Gulf region in particularly the United Arab Emirates.

Living in the UAE where most of her work is base was the smart call, and doing one of the most liked songs "لبيه ياشيخ الغضاريف" for the UAE on their national day was a clever move. She gets most of her songs from poems and lyrics written by heavy weight shaikhs in that country. And if that's not enough, she has already done a duet with Abu Baker Salem, the Yemeni Saudi music icon.

Baliks is still young and what she lacks in years, she makes up for in good choices, her music videos have all been filmed in the most dazzling places in that Gulf country. She has also been doing a lot of tv interviews and singing in contest shows like Najim Al khaleej.
