I Saw Marcel Khalife Last Night

@ The George Washington University Lisner Auditorium he had a concert and was accompanied by the Pan American Symphony Orchestra. It was a wonderful show of music, dance and some great performances. It was such a treat to see an iconic Orchestra and a beloved Arab musician collaborate together in what turned out to be a beautiful night.

While the Orchestra and its charismatic conductor Sergio Buslje were the stars of the night, Marcel has never seems to amazes you with his energy and his lute. I loved the part where Marcel and his son Bashar joined the orchestra on stage and made fresh, live music. I have not seen such a large number of musicians in a live symphony. Marcel celebrated the birthday of the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish and sang one of his song. And then the audience asked for Rita, the love tale of romance and struggle.

For me it was a new Marcel Khalife, someone you have not seen before. Maybe that's how he works in his recording studio. The Flamenco dancers straight from Spain were a very authentic addition. Their bright colored dresses and amazing moves got the audience hooked. It was a sold out show, and a great classy turnout of all kinds of people.

P.S. GWU needs to do something about the staff of the Lisner Auditorium, they need to be trained on how to improve their communication skills. The Lisner Auditorium is supposed to cater to the sophisticated people of the District, but it seems to me that their staff is trained to handle the low lives and extremely rude people. This came to my attention as a diabetic woman I know had a glass of water in her hand, two staff' person chases her like she was snorting coke. They wanted her to leave the area. Another person took a picture, and there was a very loud and rude staff person yelling at the person and everyone sitting in his/her area. I was just disappointed.
