Elissa Does The Right Thing In Bahrain Where Their Media Stinks

Elissa was invited to appear in a jewelry show in the Kingdom, she is part of celebrity endorser of a watch brand that was a co-sponsor for the show. We have blogged about her visit and I was unhappy with her decision to fly to Bahrain, a country in denial.

Now she is a world class entertainer with a brain and a functioning heart. Elissa skipped the opening ceremony where a lot of high class ladies and business types were hoping to run into her. The event is kinda of a big deal as the Prime Minister is one of the sponsors for this annual Arab Jewelry festival. Some were insulted.  But if this is done in purpose, I salute Elissa for not wanting to be part of official government business.

The Prime Minster was unhappy that someone would skip an even with her. Elissa chose to stay in the hotel, relaxing and sipping tea in her suite. Elissa then promised to be at the seven pm event. and when she attended she was not into it. Elissa did not want to take pictures and it seems some photographer insulted her and called her a "Jackass" he was kicked out of the event. Rude really, she is a celebrity, not your buddy in a hookah lounge.

She really wanted to meet her fans, not government and business types. As far as the reports go, the fans were no where to be found at the event. She met her obligation, made an appearance, but wanted none of the politics. She certainly means no disrespect for the country and its people. It's her right not to be used as a political prop.

Elissa stayed at the vent for 30 minutes, took a picture in the Asia section and left the event without making any statements to the press. The Bahrain press were upset with the songstress and calling her names. I think they should look at themselves, they have not covered massacres in their own backyard. So picking on Elissa is not journalistic.

I would normally thing this is strange behavior  but I do not I side with Elissa on this one, I think she did the right thing. Why is that country's Prime Minister sponsoring Jewelry festivals? Does not he have anything better to do?
