While most Arab singers and performers stick their necks out for Libyan and its people in favor of the revolution against General Gaddafi, one American rappers finds himself defending Libya and the Libyan regime. Traditionally hip-hop is the music and expression of the oppressed fighting oppression, not a tool to aid the oppressor. Which what I am sensing this rap song is all about.
This is Marcel Cartier, the South Bronx, NY Rapper Marcel Cartier who loves the use of the "ism" sang for both about Libya and Egypt, the current political situation and the military industrial complex. He also takes a look at how this war explains America's greater foreign policy agenda.
His beef is not with the Libyans, but rather with the US government and military operations around the world. He neither loves or hates the leaders of Libya. He just does not want to see more deaths caused by his government.
I have a lot of respect for Marcel, his heart is in the right place, and I appreciate his vocal support for the oppressed around the world. I just happen to think that Libya is different than most countries. Because the leader of that Arab country is delusional. You cannot expect lunatics to do the right thing.
HANDS OFF LIBYA! - Marcel Cartier
