Lebanon Arrests Singer Zeid Hamdan

By Will from KABOBfest

Reports from Twitter and other social media are coming in that the singer in this video, Zeid Hamdan, was arrested because of this one year-old music video (the song is older apparently). While it does name Lebanon’s president explicitly, lists common grievances against the state, the overall tenor is quite pacifist. The charge is apparently “defamation,” and the singer is calling out for people to mobilize in his defense.

This follows a state campaign against Facebook users who criticized the Lebanese president.

People should contact the embassy today to demand Zeid Hamdan’s release and that the government drop any charges stemming from this harmless song.

Here is the USA embassy’s info:

editor note: While it's true Lebanon has a lot more freedom than most Arab country, but don't try to test that freedom. It's ok to push the envelop with your hair style and your skinny shorts, but do not try to develop a sense of political humor. I love the song and its fresh style it makes me thing I am in Flatbush, Brooklyn New York where the Caribbean falvors are all over the place. People like Zeid should be sponsored and promoted not arrested and humiliated.
