The Moroccan Ladies Who Rock Arabic Music

My list of who is who in Moroccan stars who have made it big and have contributed a number of hits for Arabic music. Morocco already has one of the most beautiful landscape in the region, magical costumes and dazzling dresses. They have their own school of music that is deeply rooted in history.
  1. Aziza Jalal does not sing anymore, she is married and has quit the show business and traded it all that for a happy marriage. But back when this lady from the 70s and 80s took on the microphone, people would stop whatever they are doing and tune in. She is the definition of Tarab style songs, she can deliver those one hour songs and then tell you, "I am just getting started" While she had many wonderful songs throughout her career, the one song of hers that stood the test of time is Mestnyak! A fairytale of a love story of a woman who will wait for her loved one for as long as it takes. But in private she is struggling with the longing and the long distance.

  2. Samira Said, ever since the 80s and this Moroccan native has been enriching Arabic culture with good songs. Some of her earlier work is not classic which means if a new comer can cover them well, they may succeed in the business. Has not really been able to engineer a comeback since 2005. She has the rock star persona, the great voice that ranges from mellow romantic to upbeat dance tunes. She is an icon of Arabic music and a legend by all measures who refuses to be be outshined. She has collaborated with Arabic music legends as well as new talented young composers and lyricists.

  3. Laila Ghofran, the Moroccan equivalent of a singer who has established a career of perfecting the old songs and making them come to life in a new light. While she has a big archive of her own songs, her best songs are the ones in which she covered singers like Abel Halim Hafiz. Her voice can make any song sound really sad and heartbreaking. She has one of those voices that giving the right songs, she can suck you into an emotional experience. Her daughter was murdered last year and she has released a hit song for her daughter's memory.

  4. Jannat, the little Moroccan girl that came to Egypt to become a star and she ended conquered the music charts. In 2005 she released her single and then came the album few months later. But it was not until 2008 until Jannat took the Arab world by storm. "Habibi 3ala Neyato" was everyone's favorite song. Her album was packed with more hits than an HBO boxing match. She became Egypt's most demanded singer and most likable singer. She is on top of pop music and romantic melodies--think Taylor Swift. She does not talk much about Morocco, she is almost full Egyptian, she talks like one for sure. 2011 is promising year for Jannat who is wrong on a new album where she is looking for a production company to market the album which will sell. But will it be another successful album?

  5. Hoda Saad, the woman with a golden voice that is music smart, the Lord gave her a delightful voice that I like to the the anticipation of opening a very fine box of gourmet truffles. She came to the music scene with the backing of Rotana, the music production powerhouse who took her in as their first new talent which they stood behind and marketed. While her album was solid gold and the varieties offered were more than pleasing to all musical tastes, Hoda still has to headline a major concert. It seems than to make a star nowadays, you need more than a good voice and charm. Hoda now is venturing into the music composition business and already has collaborated on a song that was warmly received.

  6. Asma Al Menawar, the phenomenal voice form Morocco, the voice than can move mountains and change the course of rivers. She came to the spotlight after delivering a powerful duet with Iraqi singer and musician Kazim Al Sahir who few can keep up with his voice. Asma more than kept up with the legendary singer, they owned it and proofed herself as the next big thing from Morocco. Kazim collaborated with her on another song in 2009 which also was a gorgeous song that hit all the right notes. The song played like court drama with very conflicted emotions.

  7. Sofia Marikh, the Casablanca musician who took part of the star academy 2003 season and rose to fame ever since. She is well known for her amazing voice in performing Arabic and French songs. She enjoys a great voice in live performances. She has one album under her name "Kelmt Hob"and she is currently with Music is My Life the Lebanon based label. Sofia has the charisma and the charm a pop star needs, but she still has a long way ahead of her ash she keeps on improving her style. Sofia has the dreamy voice, but she has done well in both music videos that turned out to be a work of art and high taste.

  8. Mona Amarcha, the eye candy from Morocco that has loads of style and a fine set of vocals chords, ever since she took part of that Star Academy TV show and she has no place to go but up. The Gulf adores her, and she has made more songs in the Gulf dialect than any other dialect. She has appeared in a number of duets with Gulf based stars and has been a frequent guest in a number of key music festivals. In 2008 Mona Amarsha released her album Eshataetelak, which was a big success in the arab world and established her brand. Some of the best songs of Mona Amarsha include Makhtobah, Helm Aw Elm, Ya Yummah Habbaitah, Ya Asal and Darbit Moalem.
