She is Asalah and You Are NOT

Asalah comes form Syria and throughout her career spanning over 30 years ever since she was a little girl she as been giving people the muse. Of course she passt the test of covering Halaby style songs, those tough to perform songs are a long standing Syrian tradition and few stars can master them--I name Sabah Fakhry and Shady Jameel, but Asalah can deliver.

Then she took on the pop challenge and in the 90s she was the it girl with a number of albums geared toward pop fans she sold millions of copies. And when she is not doing pop, she took on covering older Egyptian songs and dude, where the critics happy with her work? Sure they where you really cannot say know to those vocals set Asalah has, she has one of the most recognized voices and you can always make out her voice any second.

then in 2005, she figured she has to record albums in Gulf dialect, a very different dielct to speak yet alone to sing in. The people of the Gulf appreciate good music and they are tough to please, they can never take a B effort, they ask for A and the pay money for A performance. Guess what? Asalah did it, she owned the style and her first all Gulf album sold thousands of copies, she sang of 10s of concerts in the Gulf countries. and in 2010 she released another album in the Gulf dialect which was also a delight.

Watch this live performance by Asalah in front of a number of her peers who have mastered the Gulf singing style, and judging from their reactions, I say Asalah has aced the test. Just see how animated those dancers are. Just to stand there and deliver this song it must have taken all the guts there--we know one thing she has never shied away from tough conversations.

P.S. She just had a twin two boys, Ali and Adam...pretty cool huh?
