The Last Morccan Star To Thrive In #Egypt

Jannat is a girl who came from Morocco about ten years ago, and in these short years she came to be the best-selling pop star in Egypt. You will never know she is not an Egyptian though. She sort of helped reshape girl pop, she beat many male pop stars to the sale pie, she is bold, and she is talented. But she is also a business.

She also comes across as a good girl, sweet voice that does happy songs and filty songs. while many pop stars from Morocco skip Egypt, Jannat was the last pop star from the Kingdom to do well and have a thriving career in Egypt. The newer ones seem to chose the Gulf. Jannat did the Samira Said thing and make Egypt her home since the early 00's.

There is simply  no bigger names from Morocco in Egyptian pop.

Indie Band Cairokee Stuns The World Once Again @CairoKee

Egypt's biggest and most popular indie rock band released a new album this week. The beloved band is changing the topic once again. Instead of political themes they have been known for, they are going for every day stories. Cairokee releases their fourth album and it makes their fans happy yet it is faced by radio silence from the mainstream media.

They chose to sing for the common man and woman, the people they made them who they are. The sing for the street vendor, the overworked police officer, the mason the public servant. It's a different kind of song. We do not get as many songs like these in our part of the world. The band is made out of young and bright artists who are well-read and keep up with what's going around them. They come across as cynical idealists.

It feels like a folk/country song fashioned in a Western/Eastern style. I like how the song is in the first person of the common man. The music video showcases many faces of Egypt. I like the daily routines, grabbing a cup of tea and a newspaper. The song is about what people want vs. what they need.

The people just want to live and let live. They do not want to break the bank, just let them live. I understand that the need to have simple and realistic dreams. As for Cairokee they continue to grow and show promise. I love how they change styles, topics and conversations every time you think they may have toped themselves--they come back with something fresh and interesting.  Don't you just love the album cover? Unlike the many covers we've seen where the band takes center stage, Cairokee lets the topic dominates the cover and it shows a lot of class.

This is an album to purchase, support and fall in love with.

Cairokee Musters The Courage To Shame Egyptian Media #Television @CairoKee

Arguably Cairokee is Egypt's biggest indie band, they might also be it's best rock band of all time. I know they shot to fame after the January 25th 2011 revolution, but they made good music and had a decent message. Though I had a falling out with them in the wake of the army coup of July 2013. Cairokee had no trouble expressing their opinions up to that point.

They chose silence, now it seems they were moved to speak about the abuses they see in Egypt. After the cold-blooded assassination of Shaima Al Sabagh- the leftist activist who was gunned down in the hands of her husband.

Enjoy the new song where they rock to making fun of Egyptian media and the various colorful TV programs that offer nonsense and silly analysts. This is a true song, as the media in Egypt has gone to the dark side, and only idiots who are pro army get to have a talk show...but this is not the only alarming thing. TV hosts in Egypt lie and defame people to support an imagined community. This is a smart yet bold song by the band. They do not like what they see, but they know they have a limit on how much they can say.

I like how they take to task the sad state of Egyptian media and finger pointing where if you are not with them, you are an enemy. As far as the music is concerned, this is a sweet song that has some serious appeal to those who appreciate a more Western music style. The band still makes great music, comes up with creative ideas and travel the world in support of their music and their ideals.

I applaud their return to common sense and pointing the oblivious in the lame, no good horrible state of media inside the country known as Egypt. You really cannot have a revolution without either a smart media to educate you or a media so bad it makes you laugh till you cry.

Harris J is who might be the next Muslim Rock Star, he's got the Justin Bieber thing going for him, and now the London native signed up with Awakening Records. His father is Irish Indian, mother has more colorful background. Harris might just give One Direction a run for their money, he has many years to get to where they have already accomplished. He comes from London, and so do they

Young kids have always been a welcomed voice in Islamic music, they use them for their naturally soft voices and energy. He won the Talent Contest and now you see him working on a new album where he will call on all the young Muslims to be good by doing good. I think he is up to a good start and we may have us a positive role model.

Aside form making music, he recites the Koran very well, and his voice sounds near perfect.

Amr Diab continues to churn hits, but that does not matter--no one buy music anymore, the public mood is not in a good place. Not sure where the money is, but that does not stop him and stop Rotana from making and signing deals. It's easy to dismiss his music as doing the same over and over again, which can be true. But what do you expect him to do? He has already done many great things with his life. He is a true hit-maker and has been on the number one spot for the past 30 years.

The album leaked a week before the official release date. So what does team Amr Diab do? They change he cover art and make it in color then they ask fans to buy the original copy. Amr Diab has maintained his good looks, and his body is in a good shape. His style has evolved a bit too. You still get your Spanish guitar that made his career. The king new album offers the same mix of Latin ,Chillout, House, techno and Egyptian drum. Keep on mind he is 53 and still beat any young talent out there.

Forgive, and you shall win this is the message by Maher Zain, the Muslim rock star who roams the world to do a face lift for Islam. We may disagree, but not hate, our humanity requires us to communicate. I love the song, it's always a good time to preach virtue.

We need to co-exist, and progress, I like these messages Maher Zain, but I think it's too late for that as we watch extremist groups in Syria butchering and torturing people in the name of Islam. I think the better message would have been, do not be sectarian, if someone makes sense, do not use their faith/sect/views against them.

This is how we lost, when we start attacking one another, and calling the other an infidel. I am sure that Maher is watching the same news reports I am watching in Lebanon, Syria and Iraq. And yes in Egypt as well. The problem that no one is strong enough to come out with a compromise. It's always a zero-sum game, everything or nothing.

Indie music fans have hit euphoria upon the release of Cairokee's third album. It's the junior album, now they have to make better music, no more experiments...They insist this time, they want to make personal music about their reality. However, their previous album was searching for a leader to Egypt. As they titled it,,,leaders wanted.....This time, they stepped back, and let their music do the work--they remain as creative as hell, but they continue to grow and explore the realm.

I do not think they have the guts to state any political material, but they still can make broad music about general concepts....Their fans remain hungry for bold music, they remain frustrated....and disfranchised with the daily reality....Cairokee wants to thrive under any regime, otherwise they may find themselves in jail cell accused of some obscure crime. They made a good rock album, taking Egypt alternative music into a new territory and bringing a lot of young people to the fold. In the past, many young people were only listening to western music because it offered something different. Now Cairokee is making Arabic music in the Western style and things have been rewarding for them.

Cairokee Finds The Key, Meet The Band Members

Cairokee is about to release their third album, and they are giving an interview to talk about their writing process, the band gets to talk about what it takes to bring their music to life. As artists they feel they are the odd one, it seems that they are a big group of brothers and friends who like to make fresh music.

They are heroes to many young people and fans of western music, they are now saying, we are apolitical group, but we are not. We are about reality or perhaps actuality. I think this is chicken shit, but I love the bit when they said, if we like/dislike someone or something we will tell. They tend to vary their style, each of their songs is unique...think third eye blind. They come from the streets even though they may have the rock star look and outfit....they come from Egypt where they built their name and reputation.

They improvise and often times, they make wonderful music--one question where does the female demographic fit in? Not sure about the timing of this album, as I feel the band went into hiding and really avoided talking politics--even though they have never shied away from dissing Mubarak, and Morsi.

Egyptian Army Shuts Down Ramy Essam Concert! Really!?

Indie and rock persona dude Ramy Essam had a concert yesterday and it looked like the army did not approve of his choice of songs. Ramy Essam is an angry singer who equally hates everyone, from the army to the brotherhood. He is one of those young voices that feel they have been taken for a ride.

While he was singing in his concert which was held during the Book Exhibit in the Egyptian capital. At first the power plug was taken out and the DJ could not play the music. Ramy Essam was shouting down with the military rule when the concert was shut down. I think this is not just an assault on the music industry, but also an assault on freedom of speech and freedom of assembly--who are we kidding armies do not build democracies.

Ramy Essam has no songs that suck to power, he is the furious hard-rock personality that makes loud music and speaks loudly. He is a big deal with young ideologues. Ramy piles on the Mubarak regime, the military rule and of course the brotherhood. Does he have anything to propose?

Khaled Selim, When Bodybuilders Sing Like Sopranos

He should be called the falsetto. That means he has the tenor is the vocal range of a man who can sing higher than the average man. A male soprano is a man who can sing very high notes which usually only a woman is capable of (a female who sings high notes is called a soprano), for example, opera singing. An incredibly high man's voice is soprano , but a generally high man's voice is alto.

This is how I think of Egyptian singer Khaled Selim. Aside from that the actor with a well built body like a bodybuilder is a class act. Each time he takes on the stage you do not know if the fun guy will come out or the guy whose voice meant for the classics will shine. The general rule, if he is sporting a suit, we are in for a night to remember. If he goes casual, you are in for a party.

Not only does Khaled spend a great deal in the gym, he also goes to great length to breath a new life in the songs he chooses to perform. This is why he has performed in the Egyptian House of opera on more than one occasion.

This Rock Song Has A Message For #Egypt Déjà vu

the most famous and biggest rock band in Egypt is also the best rock music Egyptian money can by is still with the Cairokee group. They have a song that was used in an indie movie, the song is called "last winter" about the time the January 25th revolution took place.

the song is about the abuses of the security forces in Egypt and how they mistreat activists and frankly anyone. They are rude, ruthless and violent. Now, Cairokee has not delivered any song since the army took over the land--they did sort of zing president Morsi but when it came to the army they said nothing. They probably do not want to die.

they have a song that feels like a garage song, filmed in an abandoned building, creative it's, but the song is pretty rocking from the first moment. It's an angry song which translates well with the music. There are a number of scenes from the film. The sad thing, it was the activists who brought an end to the Mubarak regime, and then it was a smaller group of them who brought down democracy and cloned the Mubarak regime.

Taking old and traditional Islamic songs--hundreds of years old and making them hip is no easy task. But the Band known as Harmony seems to have done an amazing job. They tour the Muslim world taking their songs with them, bringing a world class entertainment to their proud Muslim concert goers.

The blend Rock, rap, traditional Islamic poems into one song. Harmony Band is a group of youth that started from Lebanon in 2003 with four members and expanded to end up with professional charismatic nine influences. Each band member brings a different set of characteristics & talents which influence the youth in hearing their message in a way that is accepted by a lot of people from the recent generations.

Harmony band's message is to build awareness in people, specially the youth, in to seeing the true image of Islam and to guide people to the right path and teachings of the Prophets, as well as, denouncing terrorism and anything that gives a bad image about Islam. Harmony Band's music is very diverse, they use different styles mostly mixing oriental and western music to come up with a style that is new and innovative.

This is a young group that has done wonders with their music, I learned about them by the way of an Egyptian MC who adores their style. They change speed during the song and deliver such a fun performance where you get to sing along but repeat good lyrics--that can qualify to be worship.

Listen To The First Two Songs Of 2014 Amr Diab vs. Kadim Al Sahir

The two biggest male singers, the kings of their domains, Egyptian hit-maker Amr Diab and Iraqi versatile musician Kadem Al Saher just released a song each. Hours before the 2013 ends and 2014 kicks in--both artists have big concert planned for the new year...one in Dubai and the other in Romania.

Each of the singles are pretty awesome, they are both darker, offering wisdom and commentary on life and the things that comes and go. The timing is ideal, ushering a new year at the time when the media is keeping score.  Seasoned Hit-makers have to work harder to keep up their legacy, they will always be compered to their earlier work. Happy to report that both have done well, and done their homework.

Ten Years Later, Sayonee By Junoon Band Is My Favorite Pakistani Song

I rode in a care with two friends from Pakistan in Thanksgiving 2002 and we drove to California  from the State of Utah through Reno, Nevada. En route to our destination  music must be played, and since the driver was a Pakistan so was the music.

The highlight of the trip was me listening to catchy song by a band these two guys loved so much--the band's name is Junoon, to my mind that spelled Craziness/Madness in Arabic, and I liked where this was headed. And then came this song that the entire car passengers were jamming to it--including two Mexican girls. Sayonee, (soul-mate) you just cannot get a more perfect song that how this song flows. The song was released in in 1997 and exploded in the music charts around the globe.

This is a rock song with authentic flavor throughout. I remembered it when a lady from India talked to me about music and I told her about my favorite song from Pakistan--she was talking about soap operas from that country. She too adores this song. Peace at last, brought to India and Pakistan by one Sufi rock band. Granted, this is an Urdu song

Indie Singer Wael Amer HATES (Former) President Morsi #Egypt

Serious people govern, and those who lose, make noise. While I am observing the scene of indie music of Egypt and I cannot help but laugh. I laugh because most of the songs I am hearing are funny. This is a new odd song by Wael Amer. I like the guy and his many songs, but this time, I think calling Morsi  Hitler is both sad and funny.

He has dubbed his song "censored", and banned though I am not sure who would ban those songs. There is no way to control the various media outlets, even we wanted to.  But freedom of speech is worth it--because suppression is never productive.

It's a slow song with a groovy feel to it, like those vintage songs old timers sit in a cafe and enjoy as they sip a class of tea. He seems to be having fun as he sings this song mocking the government and Egypt. He is even picking up on the president song who got a government job that pays two hundred dollars a month.

Mohamed Mounir's Quest For The Perfect Partner

Mounir is Egypt's most original rock stars. That means his music tells a global story of a very local people, his lyrics tell the local stories to those who speak the language of the song. For three decades of more Mounir has been rocking the Egyptian music scene.

He is roughly Egypt's  best selling rock star, he does pop songs but those are his throwaway songs. He never chases after the cool and the popular, instead he does not talk to the press and most of his concerts are in Egypt or in Europe. Though he is tarting to do more gigs in Dubai

Since Mounir never got married, he always sounds like if he is chasing after something he can never have, a perfect woman. For that particular lady he has been singing all those years, his music speaks to them and elevate their status he is the romantic guy who knows the feelings. Some of his songs will bring a tear to your eye. Like the song below "Soutek" or your voice where he address the one whom he loves.

The complex love/hate bittersweet ballads he tells reflect enrich the experience and help his listeners grow up.
