The Original Poor Man's Singer's Welcome Return @hakimmusicegypt

While most singers like to film their music videos in fancy resorts, and exotic locations, one Egyptian pop star and hit-maker begged to differ. Hakeem went deep inside one of those Egyptian slums and filmed his music video there. To his credit, these were the folks that embraced him as an artist first. They are the kind people who work hard and tend to be loyal.

Hakim wanted to highlight their plight and show the other side of Egypt, not necessarily to shame governments but to celebrate survival.

This is a song about the hard-working and resourceful people. It's worth mentioning that the director of this music video is the same director who directed Hakim in two other songs that we have come to love "Al Salmo Alykom" and "Habooso""

the song's title is "Aam Salama" or uncle Salam, a common name. Kicking off with an Egyptian Mawal then jumping into the pop song. Hakim is not letting ho of how he was once Egypt's top go to artists for songs that are close to the streets. The song is about life and how people change. Hakim is known for these songs. It's a sobering song about how people hurt each other.

Soccer, Women, Music And Pigs Make Up This Egyptian Movies

This Eid like every Eid, there will be few movies in the movie theaters around Egypt wanting to empty the pockets of film goers. El Sobky film production makes sure to have at least one movie competing for the box office.

El Sobky family has been making the same movie with the same loose plot for the last five years and the idiots reward them for it. A belly dancer with a heart of gold, a sexy lady that all the guys want to be with, a very nice guy who always does the right thing, and a sleazy character. Not to forget the music have wedding songs done in the Sha'abi taste and that comic relief. It's a formula that has been used and it works.

This time El Sobky family made the same movie but this time, they made it about soccer and some misfits ladies in shorts wanting to play ball.

Egyptian Gutter Music Beats Pop (Video)

Amr Diab and Mohamed Hamaki did both release music videos last month and it took them more than a month to get 3 million views. But these kids from the streets of Egypt just beat them in the viewing game and really schooled them.

Trouble? These guys sound like shit, but somehow they are popular and not in the ironic way. I have little tolerance for this song, it's just trash. I do not care how popular it really is, to my ears, it's just noise. Lyrics are from the gutters, the music is similar to the one that can be made by car horns, the fashion is ludicrous.

The lead vocalist in this shit show goes by the name Hassan El Prince.....prince he is not, but a piece of something he is. The music video is helped by having three extremely popular vocalists? with a marginalized population. The song offers little class and no hope for the future generation that chooses to mock women.

The Cute Feminist Song By Mai Selim and Hamdy Batshan Lands @Mai_Selim

Mai Selim wanted to do a retro song and build a bridge to the past. Since Egypt is her adopted home, Mai went back to bring an old pop star from retirement, she went with Hamdy Batshan, the singer who had a hit Sha'abi album before many of you out there were born.

This was an odd pairing, but Mai wanted to break new grounds and earn new fans, so she went with the folksy wisdom and street smart lingo. It's a dialogue song between a princess and a guy who is not short on confidence. She explicitly tells him not to harass her and make advances toward her. Mai puts him in his place.

Mai sounds cute and Hamdy does a good job portraying the street guy who fell in love with a lady who is certainly out of his league. Not sure about the age difference between the two artists, but she does call him "uncle' as to show he is elderly.

This will be a good song, maybe not the massive summer hit, but a song that will be good enough to be everywhere, but may not stick around. Egyptians are known for their sense of humor and their willing to flirt. This song puts that on display and it allows Mai to wear a different hat and play the Egyptian ghetto queen. The song will please the feminists as you find an older man proposing to a much younger lady. She turned him down.

This Anti-Song Song Is Hilarious--Thanks #Egypt

A trio of Egyptian friends who have collaborated on a number of box-office darling films released a TV comedy last Ramadan and one of the things she did right was take a stab at music videos and songs that are becoming too much or too lame. Here's one of their songs poking fun of Sh'abi songs with the many ladies they use as props, this time they did an Alexandria song.

They do it in good humor, but the offenders know themselves. Too many people dancing on screen wearing strange outfits and one thing is missing--good art expressed by real talanet.

Egyptian Dude Cross-Dresses And Dances Like Ballerina (Video)

In some random neighborhood in Egypt, some guy dressed like a ballerina and danced his tail off to some loud music. This is so unreal and so random but props to the guy who joined in the party and danced along that dude.

I think some people were confused how could such a thing happen? I know even in Western countries male Ballerinas are a joke. This took place in "Al Mojama'a Al Khamis" and it looks like a big party took place as more people joined in the dance. Little is known about this ballerina, he might be up to something.

Bossy's New Song Set #Ramadan Nightclubs

Bossy continues to dominate the airwaves, the lovable Egyptian songstress turned actress wouldn't even give us a break in Ramadan. For the holy month she will be in every home with a theme song for a TV drama. Mai Ez El Deen is starring a new show and Bossy is doing the song for it.

Mai is a clever entertainer whose shows are usually a big success. For a change we see a woman centered works that are actually good and well-budgeted. Bossy is also business savvy and a tough lady in a cruel business. She has sang many styles and her vocal flexibility show a wide range of styles. This is good song that speaks love in simple terms and in a language that people in Egypt from all segments can relate to.

Sure it has its dance moments, and you can actually move your hips, but since this is a Ramadan show, why did it have to be a song in a night club with a thousand belly dancers and not one attractive male? Please note, this is one of two songs Bossy will have this Ramadan as she is singing a funny song for another show also airing throughout the month of Ramadan.

Jad Shwery Wrote, Sang And Directed All At Once! For Agaza @JadShwery

Jad Shwery is a household name in Arabic pop music. He is a singer and a director that has touched more Arabic music videos and songs that many of his peers. He is constantly searching for new ideas and concepts to explore with his mic and camera. He might bold when he is behind the camera. He argues that he is empowering women and supporting their decision to take off their clothes for his music videos. But it must be said that Jad can also direct family-friendly music videos, but he does not do that often.

Take Bosy for example, a well-liked Egyptian Sha'abi artist she just teamed up with Jad in a duet which he also directed. For the first time, Bosy is showing a lot more skin by sharing her cleavage with the viewers. This seems like a club set up and it seemed like a fun set for this happy song. There are plenty of iconography going on. Like that almost named belly dancer head gear, the traditional lanterns and not to forget that Lebanese Tarbush.

Again, I liked the song and it was only a matter of time for this music video to get a release. This is kind of a random collaboration, an invincible Egyptian folksy diva and a Lebanese party boy. It's certainly a mutual arrangement. Each gets tot tab into the other artists fan base. Bosy is not known for her Tarab (not for lack of talent) and Jad likes to rap. So this is something you do not see every day.
Jad wrote the lyrics here, and I thought the music is great, we have Mohamad Yehya to thank for that. Plus Lebanese Nagham appears on this music video.

Singer/ Director Jad Shwery Teams With Slumdog Bosy For Agaza @JadShwery

To some people, Jad Shwery made a career in insulting feminism and women who respect themselves. He is the director who convinced a dozen of Arabia's biggest female artists to take off their clothes for his music video. Though he did direct a number of tasteful music videos for (like he did with Nawal Zoghby and Diana Haddad) But overall, he is the guy you call when are unafraid to show a ittle bit of skin. in exchange for fame.

When he is not wearing the director's hat or if he is singing. And often times he does duets with other artists like his big hit from a decade ago with Malak Nasser. In 2015 though he paired himself with Bosy, Egypt's hottest Sha'aby and slum dog music. Together they are singing about taking a vacation from life's tragedies. Bosy sounds very fine here and she actually is enjoyable and comes across a lot classier than her past hits. Jad's vocals are hid behind some computer affects, he sounds a lot like a backup vocalist or a featured guest. Then he raps a bit toward the end but Bosy marshes on and carries the song

Bosy rocks out here, and the topic is pretty fresh and the song feels like a good party song or a track you play on your car on your night commute. I like Jad Shwery in doses, he is one of the most fun personalities in the music scene in Lebanon and sometimes he throws himself into the Egyptian mix like he does her. When you try as many new things as he has, you would begin to understand that sometimes things don't click.

The Marvelous Desert Romance Song By Jaber Al Kaser @jaberalkaser1

The son of the Gulf Jaber Al Kaser hearts the desert, horses, and dates. He is making an old way of life cool as you see his all-Bedouin, all the time song. The, the same places where they greet one another with noses.  He is a knight here and he catches a glimpse of the lady that stole his heart and then he stars singing. This Saudi artist who has released at least albums where he collaborated with the brightest poets and musicians under the sun. He started as local Sha'abi artist and then his fame grew so fast.

He is singing to his horse and next up, you see a lot of old men greeting one another and dancers come out and the party starts. I like this song because it's feels original and not forced. This is something missing in today's Gulf music. That noisy beat they make, just send me running in the opposite direction.

Here Jaber combines the gentle romance with the beautiful Tarab music. I think this is how going back to the roots looks. The artist seeks refuge in God as he is helpless against this romance.

Amina Goes To Sexy Town With New Music Video

Amina has branched out from singing slum Sha'abi style songs to more variety. She did that duet with the Lebanese Hisham Hajj and I think this one will be part of her legacy. While we came to know her for folksy cheeky songs, now she is a full-blown artist who has a number of romantic hits to her name. Amina also shed a new looks and new lenses.

Haters gonna hate, but why should good looks and fluffy pop should be limited to the Lebanese hotties? So she went there and I think it fits her the new look, but her voice remain as powerful as they come. I am a fan and Her latest music video for "Nefsi Nebaad" she professes her love and God is her witness.

Egypt's Hakim Plans a Stunning Comeback With "Akher Sazaga"

The original common man artist  from the 90s is about to give his career another birth. Hakim of Egypt will have a new album this month and a new music video. The elad song he composed the music for, so let's see if he can impresses us again.

Sure, there will always be the new fans who come in just now, but the fans who have been with him throughout his career have something to say. So far we see balloons, snow, and a lady not dressed for the cold. The song has been given the name "The Ultimate Stupidity" or the biggest fail....so let's see if the title will be a commentary on the artist or his critics.

Hakim is been busy shoving General Sisi down everyone's throat with the release of few songs here and there. Plus he had few concerts in Europe for his Egyptian fans. Now, let's see if he can revive the old glory of his past career when he was that guy who told a love story as you would explain it to the cab driver.

Abou Elleef Gets Humiliated, Losts His Cool (Video)

When you are a big star, you expect people to treat you with respect and courtesy. At least, you do not want them to disrespect you. Abou Elleef, the popular hairy Sha'abi/pop artist was at weddings in Cairo last night and he was being cool and cute, up to the point when someone saw him trying to slide on the table...that jerk called him with a name like Abou Elleef you boy....as a way to demean him.

Abou Elleef did not appreciate it and went back wanting a fight. He called out that jerk for his impoliticness and almost got in a hand fight with him. I do not know what Abou Elleef was trying to accomplish with this move, but then he was having none of it and the shouting match started....I could care less for either parties, but this is part of the loss of respect of common courtesy.

Afterall this wedding is very local and some people who have never seen a celebrity in their lives were present. Lots of cameras and journalists were in the wedding hall as well.

The Arab James Brown Has a New Song Ahmed Adaweyah

Ahmed Adaweyah stands tall among his peers, he remains the unrivalled voice of authenticity found in the streets of Egypt, and in her most rugged neighborhoods. He sounds like the last happy guy who wants you to feel good. His voice is about elevating the marginalized people and making them feel good about their community.

This is why his songs are at every wedding, even though he has aged...but the artist within him released a new single and is working on anew album that will include six tracks. Ever since his stunning comeback in 2009 and he has been in the spotlight. Adaweyah came a long way from his days in the 80s where he would appear in movies and sing. Now he is an agreed upon voice and an essential Egyptian classic.

Hear him sing this folks song that has a natural dance beat and it radiated happiness. A song about families coming together and sharing sweets and beverages and gifting flowers.... I loved this surprise song and it really made my apartment a happy place and shows that you can make good songs without so much of the noise.

Egypt's Fun Voice Semsem Shehab Meets The Country's Official Belly Dancer

Semsem Shehab may not be a name casual listener of Arabic music would know, you must know a lot more about Egyptian pop to recognize the name. He is the voice of the streets, the one who sings for the people who are broke. He sings for the people that never made it and never will. He tends to sing "I got The Shaft" style songs.

Life screws so many people, and they need to know that's ok. Semsem often sings while a belly dancer moves around, he is seen most recently in a movie where he sings and Dina dances. He has made an appearance in a number of movies, and his fans like it this way. The kind of movies where Semsem is one of half a dozen singer and dancers who sing during the course of the movie.

He is a voice to know, but outside of Egypt he has not made a name for himself--maybe in Libya and Sudan. But he must try to do something new, bold and fresh to get out of town.

Random! Mai Kassab To Marry Sha'abi Singer Oka (Wedding Soon)

I think the internet went crazy for this news item. It's a random news story, but who are we to judge. The beloved entertainer Mai Kassab is set to wed Oka, the famous guy from Mahrganat parties. The duo have shared the screen at least twice on films. And what started as friendship has moved into a full-fledged courtship and now news on marriage.

I think most people could not get their heads wrapped around the idea of one of the good girls marrying Oka, the guy whose fame is well-known among the youth and fans of auto-tune music. He is the headliner and the main drive behind many dance parties in Egypt. But this is not why the fans are surprised by this news. There is at least ten years of age difference whereas Mai is 10 years older than Oka.

Mai Kassan did actually study music and has performed in the House of Opera. Oka dropped out of school, so he does not have the education. But Oka is a popular hit-maker inside Egypt and he makes money.

In the Arab world this is almost unheard of. Sure, it happened in the past, but this time it happens when we have social media and lots of opinions. If the news of wedding are true I say good fro them. They never care if the guy was older, but they raise hell if the lady was a big older than the groom.

Shaabi Music Is Not The Same Without Ahmed Adaweyah

This 1975 by the king of Sha'abi music is still a crowd favorite. Ahmed Adaweyah is the guy who did fun and popular songs was not always a hit. Ahmed was attacked so many times by his contemporary, they accused him of ruining public taste. But forty years later, they are celebrating him and giving him award.

Now his songs get recorded, remixed, and A list artists seek him for duets. Check out this very local song with him singing wearing a Jalabya. Yes, it;s very random, but this is Ahmed Adaweyah classic remains relevant 39 years later. It's a wedding song inside a movie. Same thing is happing with other artists who are trying to use the same formula.

But Ahmed Adaweyah did it with class and charm, he almost never came across as a sleazy bag. He is now still alive and well, he sings and he is the father of a popular hip young singer. Started his career as a waiter, only to being singing in 1971....slowly he took over that genre and owned it.

The Electrifying Bosy In "Omar and Salwa" Movie And Shaabi Music (Video)

Egypt's alternative pop scene (Sha'abi) music is doing way better than the other pop music. Largely becaseu poor people hold less jobs or work harder and when they party they party harder. So every box office success in today's Egypt feels the urge to feature a song or two of that Sha'abi style.

Luckily, the diva of this genre is a lady with the name Bosy, she really has a sweet and a strong voice, it's just the lyrics she sings that may rub certain people the wrong way. also that men dancing offends some people in Egypt, not the dancing per se, but that these home boys are really shaking it. In a way in Egypt there are people who listen to this music ironically. For me, I may like the song but those around me may puke fun of me for it. Think about how some white folks feel about rap music in its early days.

This is a very local track...and the movie that will have this song is called "Omar and Salwa" romantic story in the slums of Egypt.

Egyptian Just Invented Pornographic Boob Dance (Video)

There are many local dancers in Egypt who think they are doing belly dancing. But more and more you see more of them dancing with their boobs, shaking those over-sized busty racks. I think it fits for the local taste. Despite what they may say, there seems to be a public endorsement of such talents.

Just consider all the big hotels in Egypt book such dancers for shows and for weddings. Some of the ladies you see them shake it are exclusive deals with the biggest hotel chains for sold out shows. The latest names on fire is Shams who can be seen on this video alongside slum singer Ashraf Ghazal. Now Shams would not do this and dress in such a way had society not sanction her--mainly men. She just wants a paycheck and she gets a bigger one with this career choice.

I would like to hear what non-Arabs think about these videos and talents? Is this for grownups? Or is this family entertainment? Keep on mind very few films in Egypt skip the belly dancing feature where it always boils down to a local wedding.

This Song From El Ashahs Will Give You Seizure العصابة - الأشاش

El Ashahs is a new Egyptian movie about a thug or what is been called "El Baltaji" it's hardly the first movie on this subject--they made one just last year. It's one of these movies where they stitch a number of tiny stories as they tell the story of one street thug who terrorize people and sleep around.

Most people are indifferent about this film, some even hate the kind of topic or the style of the producers who seem to prey on the weak and poor people by telling stories about them being sex-crazed, abusive people who like to dink do drugs and dance like strippers.

Now, we have the song which is meant to market the film, a wedding meets a block party--lots of dudes, guns, dancing ladies, and something of a rave party. Egypt is really not like this, this seems to have been filmed by someone high, and frankly the way it's filmed it might even give you seizure and panic attack. This is the techno version of auto-tine lame song with lots of slang. The thing these people who act in these movies do not live anywhere near where these stories are supposed to take place--and these people drive fancy rids and have bodyguards.
