I Know Who Killed Tunisian Songstress Zikrah ذكرى!

The official story, her husband was jealous killed her and shot himself on November 28, 2003.

Police reported domestic staff at the couple's home as saying that Ayman Al Swidi, an Egyptian businessman, used a submachine gun to fire the fatal shots at his wife, 42, during a marital dispute. Her body was found with 15 bullets in the chest and head, police said, after earlier saying that only four shots had been fired. Swidi also killed the singer's manager, Khadiga Salaheddin and his own advisor  Amr Hassan Sabri, during the fracas at their apartment in the chic Zamalek area of the Egyptian capital. Salaheddin and Sabri were themselves married.

But most people did not buy this story for one second. It's a bogus story and people with little knowledge believe this cute story an certainly understand a man can kill for love. However, there has been a number of conspiracy theories about the murder of the beloved diva Zikra.

Those theories are focused on a song she did right before she was murdered  An anti-Saudi regime song where she puts the country and its royal regime to shame for using Americans and others to protect the house of Allah. In the song she says, we can skip the hajj. It was an harsh criticism of the regime and its shameful politics.

Arab singers do not do these songs anymore  but now we have more info thanks to one journalist who have investigated the murder and the back-story. Hassan Abdel Fattah is among Egypt hardest working journalists and boldest perhaps. Hassan argues that Swidi has no trouble divorcing people as he has married few times before and he was never a violent person. According to Hassan, the Qaddafi written the controversial song which Zikra sang--the song dubs the King of Saudi Arabia as a retard and an idiot who is the song of a retard. The song aired in Libya and when a wind of it got to Saudi Arabia--they spring into action.

I do not know if this story is true, but I know the leaders of Saudi Arabia and Libya do not stand one another. Qaddafi had good relationships with most Arab singers. Plus Zikra is Tunisians--Libya's next door.   Also husbands killing their wives is so uncommon among Arab celebrities. All those things make the official story fishy.

Maya Diab Tattoo Is Going Lady Gaga Weird

Maya Diab is a popular chick, a singer, a product promoter, and a TV hostess. She is a celebrity not non for anything in particular. But she seems to have seen a surge in popularity the past three years. She has been around for more than a decade now, but her time is now.

Her latest weirdness is a whole body tattoo done by an artist where it took him hours to do. This was a marketing stuns for makeup lines, more than 120 makeup artists took part of this show. Together they draw up/worked on more than 30 models. Maya Diab was the guest of honor as she is the sportsperson for that brand. Thanks the now infamous tattoo, the entire Arab world now knows of the brand--which I won't name here.

This is insane to see such events in the Arab world, such events are weird around the globe, they were received with mixed feedback. No wonder they chose the city of Beirut where tolerance is high as long as you can is art. Tattoo is a popular art from around the world, yet the religious communities in the Middle East and some here in the states continue to shun it.

With Game Over Shitty Egyptian Movies Are Not Over

Every time I like to give Egyptian cinema some credit for making good movies and to their credit they have done better movies, I get cold feet. Here's why these shitty movies keep coming, they are cheap to make and they do not have to have a decent plot, just big names and three jokes and song. And that's what it takes to bring down an entire culture.

And yes, of course producers now worry about not making their money back as Egypt shifts shapes every minute. But my beef is with two leading females who accept to be in such silly movies...Game Over is the name of the movie where Yosra and Mai Ezdeen would star along one another and duke it out.

While those are two super stars from two different eras, I am baffled by their role...did they really need that paycheck this bad? Worse, their song to promote the movie is auto-tune for insane people. All that aside, the movie is one long stereotypes about women jealousy and getting in the gutter to bring back one gigantic ghetto movie. No wonder Yosra has been on the attacks in defense of Freedom of Expression, that's her way of wanting to make lame movies.

Wael Kfoury "Arrab Laye" The Song NAMBLA Would Like

This was supposed to be a romantic song until they brought a baby with a hairy Lebanses singer in a wife beater. The song is about love and it mentions no babies or such. This was a popular song in the early 2000s, and the look Wael Kfoury went for felt like a page from the Godfather movie.

But the director found it cool to bring a little boy into the music video. There was a time when using babies as props was too popular in Arabic music videos, but no more. Even Haifa terrorized one in her Bos El Wawa SNAFU song.

Bishara Sakhnini's Fans Are Weird

I am used to guys showering dancers with cash, not dudes showering another dude with money. This might mean that we things have gotten worse or maybe have gotten better. But I am still feeling weird about it.

See this concert called Layali Miami--Miami Nights, I imagine it's in Florida, but anything is possible. Then once they have showered him with cash, they pose to take a picture. And this not only happens once in this short video, it happens more than two times.

Bishara will be doing a US tour in California, Oregon and Arizona this month. Know for his strong voice that allows him to do old songs in the Damascus style along with that very lengthy mawal where breathing is not allowed. I like how in his pictures he always have the blue eye thing in a necklace.

This music video is from the 70s, a Shabai style song by Mohammed Adawyah. The song does not mean anything in particular. There are men in dark, skeletons, fangs and blood. I do not know who had this idea to make such a music video that I would never have imagined possible.

Metal and Goth music make really creepy music videos, it's an art that has its fans, but I can never understand it myself, but I am here to see this is a bold music video to make in an Arab country. That's certainly a cheap looking music video, but the concept is new or was new back then. What do you think?

So here's an idea, get a bunch of Arab looking folks in traditional dress and have those people take over an American airport and break into a dance. Just like one of those innocent flash mobs one sees around the world. How do you think that will end? If those people do not freak the Hell out of the airport security, and they will end up going to jail all of them.

Is Milk And Honey The Best Arabic Song?

See a lot of commentators swamped my blog defending a singer called Zayne. on this blog. I knew nothing of his song, I only had issue with using a belly dancer as a prop that has nothing to do with the reality. It's so stereotypical and so tired. But Zayne is not alone. Here's another group that has little knowledge of Arabic culture, but that did not stop them from bastardizing the culture. While everyone has the freedom to express their speech, I have the same right too.

I doubt that, but that doesn't stop some people on the internet from arguing that this techno dance song that makes little sense in Arabic yet alone in English qualifies to be the best Arabic song.

I have seen terrible songs in my lifetime, but this one is not terrible, it's just weird. Getting some dark person dressed like an Indian to sing Arabic doesn't qualify as an Arabic song. Hear me out, this this song mute the volume, play any Greek, Russian, Persian, Turkish song and the song will be OK for that song too.

The ladies are fine looking, specially the Britteny Spear wannabe, sure that's what you get hot in Europe, Germany in particular.

Why Does Wael Kfoury Hate Arab Girls?

I do not remember one music video of his that does not feature an all white female model. Blonde in particular is what Wael seems to be going for. There is nothing wrong with that, if those white female models are making you a star and listening to your songs, but they are not. UNCOVERED: Amr Mostafa Song for Mubarak's Party

Amro Mostafa, the genius composers who seems never to run out of ideas to bring fresh music to new songs. But we are not here to talk about the musician, we are here to talk about Amr Mostafa the politician and the mouthpiece for the Mubarak regime.

We at Hot Arabic Music just unearthed a song that will make Amr Mostafa regret the day he got into the propaganda business. I mean we knew he was clown when it come to opinions, he has always defend the Mubarak regime (read here) and have often socialized with figure of the ruling party, a dinner at Ahmad Ezz, the business tycoon and leader in the Egyptian ruling party commissioned this song that Amr Mostafa had no shame in writing the music for and putting his voice on the track. To support the ruling party is one thing to insult its critics and fabricate facts is another. To have an opinion is fine, to lead a propaganda campaign for a corruption riddled party is another.

This is not about Amr Mostafa, he is a fine composer and a charismatic guy, this is about his history with the ruling party and the Mubarak regime. the song says that the ruling party works for the interest of the people, jobs, new ideas to build Egypt, let's just put our hands in the hands of the ruling party. They promise to hire all the young people of Egypt. That they did, the young people of Egypt worked full time on a revolution to bring down this regime. Loai, the other singer who voiced this song is making promises that Egypt is the land of freedom and they should be unafraid to vote--as long as they give the ruling party they are safe.

Now with the NDP and its leadership scrambling to save what they can save and steal as much as they can, Amr Mostafa must be feeling no love as he came out of this revolution as one of its biggest bitter losers. I might listen to any new stuff this guy makes, but I will no longer listen to what he has to say, I doubt if any one will ever take anything this guy says seriously ever again.

Mohamed Rahim Flirts With the Protesters

Mohamed Rahim, the Egyptian composer turned singer never shies from Egypt and he has always be proud. Two years ago he was accused of circulating a rumor that he will be marring Elissa, the Lebanese singer whom have collaborated with him in the past. Only to deny it in a press conference where he talked about his debut album. A bit late now, but Rahim came out in favor of the demonstrators, but more singing for Egypt. Amazing lyrics, the story of Egypt, religion and history as it served as a cradle to it.

It's about unity and preserving the land and the public property. The clips show a number of touching pictures from the protests in Cairo and around Egypt. I enjoyed the footage of the praying protesters in such a united fashion, where prayers met. I also appreciated the references to the Bible. It's touching to see the video of the young men and women cleaning up the mess in the streets to keep Egypt Beautiful.

I did not like the clip of Hosny Mubakra, what the heck is this about? Game over sir? That kind of took away from the clip and made it seem mushy. What is the massage? I am lost by throwing in that last clip. Again another good song, the clip and sideshow are amazing till the last minute.

Same Old Garbage, New Trash Cans

Nismah sounds like she is one of those spoiled girls in the Gulf with a lot of money, a lot of free time and absolutely no talent. To hear a singer from the Gulf sing an Egyptian song that lyrics sucks and old rhyme ripped from an Egyptian Sha'abi tune that is more exploited than an abandoned mine in the desert.

I have nothing against Nismah the person, what I resent are her choices. first her blond hair has to go, it's not earning her any friends. Her Egyptian accent is laughable, and anyone can detect her fake accent. She should make music videos with some original ideas not the one that has been done or executed by a 12 year old with camcorder.

If she really wants to be a star she should go back to her roots and deliver some fine songs in her original accent and dialect maybe then she stand alone and show us what she is made of. But in the meantime a song like this won't get anyone anywhere becasue it's title speaks for my case now...every time we see something like this music video we get mad.

This is Really really Hard

these Moroccan rappers have it all figured it out. I know most Arabic speakers find it really hard to make out what the Moroccan accent says. This is part due to French influences and Amazeeg tribes influence on that country's dialect. sure I have heard that the Dialect in Morocco is very close of the language of the Koran or as known Al Darijah. This might be true, but they talk really fast.

These two rappers from came up with something harder to understand, rap in their country's dialect. I have no clue what they say in Arabic or English. Every few seconds, I make out a word, but then I cannot make sense of the verse. Maybe i need to get an education to be able to tell what they are saying. But if you cannot reach people who speak your mother tongue, you have a problem. this is not against rap, rap is a good delivery tool like many others. Maybe L3arbe Ft Mojahid can provide some lyrics for their songs, I would be interested to read them. Maybe then I can enjoy their rhymes and poetry.
