We are all suckers for social media, yes many of us have an addiction to them. But not these two ladies who released two songs celebrating YouTube and Facebook. Oumnia did a song for YouTube and her voice is pretty decent, so she can do better songs than this one. It's a romantic song where YouTube comes up.
The next song is by Mai Khayat who woke up only to head to her Facebook profile to check what's happening. Again, neither of these artists are A list artists, nor are they B, but their songs travelled well and thanks to Filfan, I got to hear about them. I am glad someone is watching these songs and music videos. In between the uploads and the updates, this is a whole different universe.

This is a hilarious song that has a music video. A romantic song with a sense of humor is just what the doctor ordered. The creative work of Shady Omar shows here as he surrounds himself by jeans wearing young women splashing him in water.
This looks like one hell of a party they had on set. The song is pretty hilarious and feels like a song that would play in college dorms parties. There are all these hipster characters on screen. I like the youthfulness and that the dancer is partying just like the rest of his models. Shady knows how to party and I like his arrival.
It's an amazing job to have a new comer with a cool music video like this one Shady Omar has done. This could be an Egyptian hit, its lyrics are catchy. I like the music too, and the set seems fitting for the song's theme.
Mr. viral or GoRemy has a new rap/song for Baklava. It's a funny yet another funny song from this world famous YouTube sensation. His sense of humor does not age (kinda of like Baklava) He plays a number of characters for the Baklava song.
His mom is back with her dance moves. Feel free to download his new song. From his hummus song to his Arlington rap Remy has done wonders of American pop culture injecting a bit of the old East in it. No he is not a singer--at least that's not what we know him best for. He is a Lebanese hairdresser who spends his greatest time styling hair for celebrities, models and wealthy individuals around the Middle East. He is considered one of the top ten stylists in Lebanon by some magazine--it seems important to him.

The humor-loving band MTM is making a splash literary. The Egyptian pop band with three members releases a new song two weeks before the month of Ramadan. If you know Ramadan, then you understand the importance of washing dishes due to that one large meal and guests due to social visits. But this has nothing to do with Ramadan.
The band is singing about someone who wants to live large, talking about their wish lists of car style and the giant speakers. Guys can dream--even broke ones. A humorous song with a catchy tune filled with street language. The band left no stone upturned as they wrote this song, they covered pretty much just about everything about the Egyptian summer.
But the song keeps it real and tells the guy to go back to washing dishes. The song pokes fun of pool season, and soccer season and Facebook activities. This is a funky summer song that combines best of Western world and the Egyptian street. So now we know that the cool kids will be playing this song as they party this summer.
While MTM is not as prolific as other bands in Egypt, this songs reminds us that they are the fresh band that does have a different take on music. The Alexandria natives Mikey, Takki, Mahmoud come to lead this summer with a fun song that is actually fun to listen to. This is their comeback song after a 7 year sabbatical. Another surprise was MTM's using the same female vocalists from an iconic 90s song "Kol El Banat BitHibak"

He had a Ramadan show last year with his buddies, and months ago, he made a popular parody video of that famous Van Damm epic split truck video. Now that he sort of established a name for himself, he gets to walk down the streets of Gaza wearing suspenders and cool shades, he seems to picks mostly on young woman near a school.
I think he will get in trouble soon enough. Not sure what's the message of his video....but he has a cool haircut. He now decided to ask folks in Gaza if they were to be made into a movie, what type of movie will it be? Gaza is now paying the price as decided by the Egyptian army who hates any Islamic party.
One of the most gifted and talented Egyptian musician has shown that he enjoys a great deal of humor. Tamer Ashour tends to do darker songs, the vengeful type when romance goes sour. But in real life he seems like a guy who likes to tease folks. I saw a clip of him at wedding concert where he was singing--some young fan was filming him with his camera....Tamer reached for the phone and pretended to throw it away....and then handed it back to the fan with a smile.
Once again, Tamer Ashour tops that video and gives us a good laugh. For skinny guy he is tough. A fan walks into the stage posing for picture for his idol. Tamer took the picture with him and leaned to grab the fan and carried him, that was really funny and a first. Usually you carry the singer not the other way around.
That Egyptian brand humor has not left the world yet, a new bizarre and unconventional jokes are still coming out of Egypt. Pop music can channel some of that. This is why singers like Diab continue to release local hits that appeal to the rest of Arabia. Play on words is what this track of his is all about.....
replace a letter with another one, and you get something random. Diab is a talented guy who has a producer to kill for, I have his album but to be ranks I have not raced to listen to it in one sitting. You do not go to Diab for intellect, but for hip street smart and wisdom from the slums. He seems to always find a good dance beat to bring joy into some guys' life in Egypt at a wedding party.
The song took a bit to process, play on words, by sweating letters around, like Good morning becomes Mood Gorning! This is what the song is about it. Sure a fresh and a new concept, but did it work?
Guys do stupid things all the time. All guys no question about it. When it comes to attracting females, they lose their minds and everyone in their mind think they are the greatest. But seriously where does all this confidence come form?
Maybe the new music video for the single by Tarek Al Atrash will help explain the low IQ guys have around attractive females. They are dropping like flies near sweet things. Please note the street harassment and catcalling females. Guys think it's cool--I doubt females find it attractive. Those grown men are acting like boys and juveniles as they stalk this young woman.
Really? Following the lady into the hair salon is not romantic. Tarek Al Atrash has a good voice, but who the hell does she think he is? I guess the message from this music video the crazy one gets the girl. all you need to do is stalk her and do her hair. Tarek is based in Dubai, a long way form home. Ever since he did that song about cigarettes and he is living large.
Keep on mind according to the song, Tarek does not mind becoming Scarface for the one he loves.
Sure, it might be narcissistic but this seems the age we live in. And Sandy is one of the prophets for this era. She celebrated her birthday with friends and she shared a video with the fans. There's nothing more than a group of young women giggling nonsense.
I like the ride they were on, it seems to be scary for a minute. But it appears the Egyptian pop star enjoys living life on the edge. I guess this video is only part one, there will be part 2! In this age pop stars feel that we must know about aspects of their lives, not just the music.

When a secondary character on a hit TV sitcom get their own show, it's known as a spin off. Faza'a, Fezo or Faza3 the lovable guy from Alkabeer, that TV show on Ramadan. I liked him on the show, I liked the first and second season anything after that is just trash.
Fezo is now back with a new movie of his own being himself. I do not feel this movie will break any records or impress the critics, but it will help Fezo become a star after being a punching bag on that show. Here's the song that's helping get the word out on the movie. It seems to have a loose scrip where anything goes...it's something for the kids, a bit of misfit romance and some light drama.
Balqees made so many awesome music video where she has shown her great sense of humor. Although she is a gorgeous lady, she goes for the nerdy and funny chick. It ain't easy to be a fun female pop artist in the Gulf.
This Yemeni rock star seems to have a lot of fun on set and she invites others to have a blast. This is why her songs always land well and bring out the party. Watch this zany music video with so many styles, colors, cultural iconography...and beyond. This is pop art at its finest. It's tough to be a pop star in the Gulf and to maintain the cool label. Fayez Al Said (he composed this song) did it and now comes Balqees whose stocks are only going up.
If you will notice, she wears two different soccer uniforms--both for rival Saudi teams. And half a dozen Khaleeji artists appear in the music video.
Belqees sports so many looks and the music video moves so fast....I find it interesting for the artist to wear the conservative all black outfit (I know some will be offended) I like her soccer uniform and how she seems to follow this game religiously. This is a party song as the title suggests.....I love how much energy she brings out, all these things must have made it hard for the director to keep track. But it seems Balqees played along and it paid off.
I do not know many pop stars who can pull off this self-deprecating humor (can you imagine Elissa?) Just look at the eye affects toward the end of the song. She is many things, spunky for sure, exciting, check! Fresh....always! Not only does she has a cool voice and a huge social media profile, but her acting chops put seasoned actors to shame.
The album will be released in few days and it's already breaking records in the iTunes universe.

I think this is supposed to be funny from Hala Fakhir, the Egyptian actress who is now hosting a talk show. It seems to be a cool thing to do in Egypt is to marry a Lebanese woman over one of the local ladies in Egypt. So it seems the thinking is to skip Egyptian ladies and go for the Lebanese who is foreign and not too foreign.
Hala advises the men of her country not to go with Lebanese due to the dialect differences whereas some references--some of the example is the word for refrigerator and the tires. I find it funny that an Egyptian woman doesn't stick to the ladies from her land.
Then she goes with the European nationality it comes with more perks and the ladies according to Hala keep up their health up to the 80s as they exercise. She also pokes fun of Egyptian ladies who at age 40 get many health woes. She forgets to say by 40, most ladies in Egypt have had at least four kids, but the one in Europe may have never had a baby.
I know this is meant to be humorous, but to be frank it's an insult to Egypt, its people both men and women.

Some Egyptian film is pushing the envelop with a new racy song set up in a wedding with the voice of the slum's best artist Mahmoud El Lathy in the company of Hassan Radad, Emy Said, Aytan Amer and May Selim. And together they are dancing and singing like no one is watching.
This is a hit song in today's Egypt and it's really sad, but also fun. There are so much good about this, but this is sleazy for one bit. At least the guy is singing and dancing just like the ladies and the good news they are all covered.
A truck load of women, or a jam of women, a boat load of women is this title. May Salem adds a bit of sizzle to this song, I hope it's not just five ladies fighting over some dude. Amy adds the humor that's all her own. Aytan ads that Egyptian funk.
Enjoy this feast....I think the idea behind this film is both tried, expired, and boring....so let's hope they find a better story to tell and that Hassan Al Radad playing man whore for a long time now. It's gets old. It stinks that all Egyptian films that make money are about dancing and about singing in this fashion. Maybe it's the audience who wants this....if they see indie films, they may go see them But also indie films only show in limited screens and they do not get to advertise their films like these clowns.

Mais Hamdan may not have any friends in the music business because there is no female pop star that she is unable to impersonate in a comical way. In under five minutes, this Jordanian (family is from Nablus) was able to satirically give us a treat and a portrait of half a dozen songstresses that vary in range, style and age. She started with Nancy Ajram, went to Assalah, did a bit on Elissa, Latifa was next, followed by Samira Said, and there was Haifa Wahbe, and a detour to Nawal Zoghby....
And Najwa Karam was on Mais hit list. You can tell people dig Mais and her spot on tribute to the A list pop stars. I know Arab stars in public, try to have a good humor, but the hate that who gets laugh at our expenses....Mais tries to be cool about it and not insult people.
The best part of the show was when Mais was her very own, she did her new single and boy does she rock? This is her fifth single and she is only getting better.

Salah Entertainer took home the award and the title of Arabs Got Talent. Then the winner got to do dozens of interviews. Question? Why is the winter of Arabs Got Talent does not speak Arabic? Really MBC? He says he is Arab and he appeared on some French programs. But he is speaking English at the press conference.
Really? What language do they speak in Morocco/ Algeria? Maybe you do not have to speak Arabic to be an Arab? I thought this is what makes on Arab in the first place? Least he can do to speak Arabic...he says he is Muslims, can he not read the holy book? I do not now, I might be too grumpy right now.
He did give a shout out to the kid from Palestine and the struggle of the people of that land. He also gave a shout out to Egyptian Yasmina. I just do not get where in his background he got the English from? Does he speak French too? I bet he does. No doubt he is talented and has brought a lot of joy with his appearance. How can he make money? I think he will show up in some movies or music videos for quick cash.

The government in Egypt is planning a big blitz to market their country as a destination for world's tourists. Just like every other touristy country they are after their money. No shame in that, but Egypt is like no other country in the sense that they are going through a phase of hyper-nationalism. Which means any foreigner taking picture can be arrested, humiliated and held for questions.
Why?
In the army run nation, everyone is a suspect and since they have marketed a big conspiracy theory being waged against the country. So many tourists have been questioned by random security personnel, they government even urged its people to be vigilant and take matters into their hand when it comes to their nation's security. I like visiting Egypt, but not this one. The current one is a police state and I would hate to go into a country and benefit the economy that abuses people and denies them their freedom of speech.
So since not many people consider going to Egypt, their buddies in the repressive regimes in the Gulf send their people to enjoy and to party in this country who has seen better days. Which explains the many faces dressed in traditional dresses popular in the Gulf. So their latest attempt to marker the country and the regime with it is a new campaign called Misr Orayba, which translates into Egypt is near. It's near something, not good though. It would have been an honest take to market it as Egypt is cheap, since the economy is in the toilet--things are so cheap right now including the life of Egyptian. s
What I do not get is that only last year some vocal talking heads and leaders were talking about sealing their borders and denying entry to all foreigners (they are trouble) Now the regime wants the same foreigners to bail them out with their dollars. There are lots of good people in Egypt and many poor people benefiting from tourism.
There are many actors and singers who have donated their time for this ad, lots of celebrities. Had I liked the regime, I would have liked this new track. There are other non-Egyptian singers and talents that appear in this work. I am reminded of a marketing campaign that was done in California by celebrities who wanted to be cool. I like what Yemeni Belkis had to say, she looks and sounds good. Nawal from Kuwait chimes in. This is a big production, though the regime in Egypt still stinks. One of the lines in the song is about removing borders.... which is odd, since this regime has locked sad for the people in Gaza and now Libya and Syrian remain on the blacklist.

There was once a popular actor in Egypt with the name Rico, he was the funny sidekick who would say the craziest stuff. He would also do songs as well, and he had a catchy name...Rico.
His real name is Khalid Salah el Deen best known by Rico. He was just arrested on drugs charges along with a number of his friends. Security forces got a tip about an apartment frequented by the actor where he allegedly did drugs.
He was arrested Wednesday January 28, 2015. After conducing an investigation and issuing the right warrants, the police raided the apartment in El Oboor City and arrested all the individuals on site. Rico has not commented on those charges yet.
The actor and his friends was instructed to give a blood and urine samples for drug testing. Rico's last role was his appearance on a number of Ramadan TV dramas.
Cross-talented Yemni entertainer Arwa has a new show, and she chose to make fun of that famous Haifa Wehbe dress she wore on MBC network on Star Academy. It was a revealing dress, it pretty much showed us Haifa Wehbe's backside with details in prime time.
The network apologized about the famous dress scandal and that too much Haifa. As for Haifa she always wins, as the press talked about her and her dress and the boys loved the bit. The guys pay her bills, the network scored big ratings, and those who make fun of Haifa also win....
Arwa enter the stage, a month after the fact, she poked fun of her and the dress. She even performed the song performed by Haifa using a real life black bar....I did not know about Arwa's show, but now I do. Keep on mind the show is also on MBC--the same network that brought us the naked dress.
