Cairokee front man is giving a new lease on life for one once popular cult classic song. The song was originally by Medhat Saleh in the late 80s, it's about being happy despite being poor.  It was a cool song then and still relevant today. Medhat Saleh is still making great pop songs in addition to his live tarab performances.

The Egyptian has a new odd friend front man for Cairokee, Amer Eid who took it upon himself to do a cover for this classic and pay homage to this first-rate pioneer in pop songs. It's a fun and funny song that depicts the sense of humor many young people have where they are able to find joy despite not having the means.

Abdel Fattah El Grini Refuses To Lose His Signature Hair @AbduGrini

Abdel Fattah El Grini did release many hits throughout his music career of ten years. The hip artist has something else heis well-known for-his hair. His Arab Afro is a brand of its own and the star often jokes that he sleeps in one room and his hair in another.

A Hilarious Video! Indie Music Meets 90's Pop Kid

Egyptian singer Medhat Saleh has just shown that he is a cool guy. In a new promo video he appears along two of Egypt's hottest indie artists Zap Tharwat (rap artist) and Amir Eid (indie rock from Cairokee band) and together they made this hilarious video.

You see Medhat Saleh is considered the first pop artist and the first singer to release a music video--he did that in the late 80s. This video is promoting a new network called "IN" carried by a cellular network provider.

Then came 2011 and Amir and Zap shot to fame. Now the two get to be seen together making fun of each other and looking like good friends. Medhat plays the unwanted guest who wants to party with the cool kids. Then he does a bit of his beloved classic song.

Lebanese Trash And Stinky Politicians In Music

Lebanese trash is causing a political turmoil. It took a garbage crisis for Lebanon to finally snap.
Anger about the heaps of trash accumulating in Beirut's streets boiled over this week with thousands protesting in the street against a government so dysfunctional it can't hold elections or pick a president, much less deliver basic services.

But since this is Lebanon a land of a million artist, a million fashionista and a million more savvy business person, they are making songs to celebrate this stinky mess. I have come across two songs one by Aly Barkat and another by Shady Farah. They essentially say the same thing.

People of Lebanon deserve better from their country and from their crook politicians. Leave the people, leave the offices and leave the republic alone. And the security forces did have a tough stand and beat up people in the streets. Not very smart, you do that and you fuel the demonstrations. The songs offer us some humor in this crisis.

The Cute Feminist Song By Mai Selim and Hamdy Batshan Lands @Mai_Selim

Mai Selim wanted to do a retro song and build a bridge to the past. Since Egypt is her adopted home, Mai went back to bring an old pop star from retirement, she went with Hamdy Batshan, the singer who had a hit Sha'abi album before many of you out there were born.

This was an odd pairing, but Mai wanted to break new grounds and earn new fans, so she went with the folksy wisdom and street smart lingo. It's a dialogue song between a princess and a guy who is not short on confidence. She explicitly tells him not to harass her and make advances toward her. Mai puts him in his place.

Mai sounds cute and Hamdy does a good job portraying the street guy who fell in love with a lady who is certainly out of his league. Not sure about the age difference between the two artists, but she does call him "uncle' as to show he is elderly.

This will be a good song, maybe not the massive summer hit, but a song that will be good enough to be everywhere, but may not stick around. Egyptians are known for their sense of humor and their willing to flirt. This song puts that on display and it allows Mai to wear a different hat and play the Egyptian ghetto queen. The song will please the feminists as you find an older man proposing to a much younger lady. She turned him down.

Girl Power! Donia Samir Ghanem Ft. Hamaki | Awel Marra

Donia Samir Ghanem had a big surprise with her new show in Ramadan--she topped the ratings and became one of the best female-lead shows in a busy TV season. And to piss off her rivals, she ended her show with a sweet romantic song with one of the coolest pop stars Hamaki. What's neat, it's her name is on top of the credit and he is the guest vocal feature.

The Amazing Vintage Street Musician In Beirut (Video)

Street musicians are something you are used to seeing in Western capitals, they sing for change and some of them are pretty awesome. In downtown Beirut in the posh Achrafieh neighborhood a lute striking and folksy sounding street artists took over one corner doing his best renditions of beloved Arabic classics.

The old man with a lute has a great sense of humor too, his signs invites people to listen to his music and give him a tip as he is unable to find a full-time job. I salute this man for his performance that add a bit of culture and local flavor to otherwise an urban center.

A trio of Egyptian friends who have collaborated on a number of box-office darling films released a TV comedy last Ramadan and one of the things she did right was take a stab at music videos and songs that are becoming too much or too lame. Here's one of their songs poking fun of Sh'abi songs with the many ladies they use as props, this time they did an Alexandria song.

They do it in good humor, but the offenders know themselves. Too many people dancing on screen wearing strange outfits and one thing is missing--good art expressed by real talanet.

The Funky Summer Song Arrives! Thank You @Mtmofficial1

The humor-loving band MTM is making a splash literary. The Egyptian pop band with three members releases a new song two weeks before the month of Ramadan. If you know Ramadan, then you understand the importance of washing dishes due to that one large meal and guests due to social visits. But this has nothing to do with Ramadan.

The band is singing about someone who wants to live large, talking about their wish lists of car style and the giant speakers. Guys can dream--even broke ones. A humorous song with a catchy tune filled with street language. The band left no stone upturned as they wrote this song, they covered pretty much just about everything about the Egyptian summer.

But the song keeps it real and tells the guy to go back to washing dishes. The song pokes fun of pool season, and soccer season and Facebook activities. This is a funky summer song that combines best of Western world and the Egyptian street. So now we know that the cool kids will be playing this song as they party this summer.

While MTM is not as prolific as other bands in Egypt, this songs reminds us that they are the fresh band that does have a different take on music. The Alexandria natives Mikey, Takki, Mahmoud come to lead this summer with a fun song that is actually fun to listen to. This is their comeback song after a 7 year sabbatical. Another surprise was MTM's using the same female vocalists from an iconic 90s song "Kol El Banat BitHibak"

He had a Ramadan show last year with his buddies, and months ago, he made a popular parody video of that famous Van Damm epic split truck video. Now that he sort of established a name for himself, he gets to walk down the streets of Gaza wearing suspenders and cool shades, he seems to picks mostly on young woman near a school.

I think he will get in trouble soon enough. Not sure what's the message of his video....but he has a cool haircut. One of the most gifted and talented Egyptian musician has shown that he enjoys a great deal of humor. Tamer Ashour tends to do darker songs, the vengeful type when romance goes sour. But in real life he seems like a guy who likes to tease folks. I saw a clip of him at wedding concert where he was singing--some young fan was filming him with his camera....Tamer reached for the phone and pretended to throw it away....and then handed it back to the fan with a smile.

Once again, Tamer Ashour tops that video and gives us a good laugh. For skinny guy he is tough. A fan walks into the stage posing for picture for his idol. Tamer took the picture with him and leaned to grab the fan and carried him, that was really funny and a first. Usually you carry the singer not the other way around.

Mais Hamdan Pokes Fun Of Female Pop Stars--They Hate Her For It

Mais Hamdan may not have any friends in the music business because there is no female pop star that she is unable to impersonate in a comical way. In under five minutes, this Jordanian (family is from Nablus) was able to satirically give us a treat and a portrait of half a dozen songstresses that vary in range, style and age. She started with Nancy Ajram, went to Assalah, did a bit on Elissa, Latifa was next, followed by Samira Said, and there was Haifa Wahbe, and a detour to Nawal Zoghby....

And Najwa Karam was on Mais hit list. You can tell people dig Mais and her spot on tribute to the A list pop stars. I know Arab stars in public, try to have a good humor, but the hate that who gets laugh at our expenses....Mais tries to be cool about it and not insult people.

The best part of the show was when Mais was her very own, she did her new single and boy does she rock? This is her fifth single and she is only getting better.

The Ridiculous Cumin Song By Shakira. When Sexy Goes Wrong

spices are back in season and this is why a singer with the name Shakira picked cumin to sing honor with her latest song. It's a high school song fashioned after sexed up high schools outfits. It's a ridiculous song meant to entertain the sleazy guy. I have no idea what to make of this assault on art.

Watching this music video is like being artistically raped by the folks who brought the song to life. I am sorry for this young women's family they have to go through this. A sad song for people with low self-esteem. She calls herself a cat and dances suggestively and puts on a sex show that lacks class or to be blunt morals.

I do not know who will find this song entertaining, it's just a terrible no good song and that's without seeing the music video that makes it so much worse. Keep on mind people use cumin to avoid becoming gassy, and this is the feeling you get from the dancers.

The formula for Egyptian movies has been revealed and in a funny way. I have been saying this for some time now, but this video puts it in a funny and true way. He mocks these belly dancers--really some shocking footage (Boob twerking)

They do not win awards these movies, and most of these movies are all the same plot, and 40 percent of these flicks are made in one studio---El Sobky. It's a sad day to look at movies in the past and now. They do make at least one good movie in Egypt each year, but for every good movie, they make 20 trashy flicks.

1. Bring some guy to play thug
2. Bring in some belly dancers--one, two, or three let them shake it all.
3. Bring some sissy dudes and let them sing and say sill stuff and make it look like a party.
4. Shot some fight scnes, bring out the machet
5. Film a cafe and lame dialogues, lines that make little sense
6. Assault the public tastes, ruin classical songs

Maya Diab does not go away for very long and she does not let you miss her, this is why you are about to hear from her in about under three months. This is a new milestone for Maya, this is the finest song and coolest pop track from her in the past two years.

If you like Maya Diab, you will love this song and if you hate her, you would consider changing your mind. Maya has came a long way and for the past three years she has shown that she is worthy of being a top pop diva and a socially responsible entertainer.

Those Brown-Nosing Egyptian Entertainers Deserve To Live Under Dictatorship!

Just watch them release one song after another praising the army and it's lovely army leader General Sisi, who has never met a a massacre he did not like. Now, the entertainers all falling in line behind him singing hims praises. They sing for the second revolution but not the first one. Le'ts be clear, the main artists in Egyptian music did not sing for the Jan 25th revolution, But they all came swinging for the second revolution (aka coup)

They are singing about their history and past glories, but have no idea that the future is what matters, and they just have ruined it for everyone else. I love how this song, calls the brotherhood a minority--forgetting off course that minorities have won the past six fair elections that took place in Egypt. The issues with such thinking, is that they fall in love with persons, not the process. Meaning democracy is a process and it's hard to like, but when a charming and soft spoken dictator raises, the people of Egypt cheer him on. and remember 30 years later their original sin. 

I thought entertainers like Medhat Saleh and Rihm Abd El Hakeem were all for freedom of speech, but they were among the first to usher a new ear of intimidation and repression. Of course those practices come wrapped in the flag of nationalism and Arab Unity. I love how they sing for Arab unity, but the new government is choking the Gaza Strip, jailing Palestinians, Syrians and Yemenis for no crime they have committed.

The humor in all this, the army targeted the brotherhood first, second they gutted the liberals, and now they are going after the Al-Azhar and the other parties that does not endorse the arm's practices.

I remind you, most of those singers who are praising the army were the same ones who sucked up to Mubrak, and now they are coming back for the encore.
