This is a hilarious song that has a music video. A romantic song with a sense of humor is just what the doctor ordered. The creative work of Shady Omar shows here as he surrounds himself by jeans wearing young women splashing him in water.

This looks like one hell of a party they had on set. The song is pretty hilarious and feels like a song that would play in college dorms parties. There are all these hipster characters on screen. I like the youthfulness and that the dancer is partying just like the rest of his models. Shady knows how to party and I like his arrival.

It's an amazing job to have a new comer with a cool music video like this one Shady Omar has done. This could be an Egyptian hit, its lyrics are catchy. I like the music too, and the set seems fitting for the song's theme.

The Welcome Return of Hip Star Girini In "Da Habibi" @AbduGrini

Grini returns to much fanfare, this awesomely cool Moroccan hit-maker is back with a pop song that brings out the party in each one of his fans. He went with catchy Egyptian lyrics, kept his dope hair style and brought out dozens of young people to dance along. There's fashion and there's some cool outfits from this hip artist who sure can dance.

This feels like a whole new style of music to the star, it feels a bit like the funk from the 70s, it's a razzle dazzle...while the song is fast paced, the song is a decent showcase for Grini, it shows off a lot of his vocal talent aside from his hip appearance.

Grini is still cool even after ten years in the show business he still moves like magician who is unafraid to come across as a more of a Western performer than an Eastern one. But the director did a good job creative a sweet music video.

The song is worth the wait, we have not gotten a song from Grini in years now, this song is the right choice for a much needed comeback.

Back To School! The Best Music Videos With Schools!

September is the month to go back to school, for everyone else it's the Fall season and pumpkin time. I wanted to explore Arabic songs that take place in school--there are so many of them really. I just wanted to share them with you from my memory. These songs are classics and and some of them were part of films. What's curious is that Egyptian pop star Mohammad Fouad has two songs in this group.

I think this is a bittersweet moment for me, as I have not gone to school for a long time and I remember the best part about it it being one with old friends and favorite teachers. It was fun and now I see it. The songs below are some of the most memorable pop songs that either talk about schools, education or take place inside a school.

It's Spring Time On Planet Latifa (And It's All Good!) @latisol

Spring might v\be over but not in the world of Tunisian diva Latifa. She just released a new music video where love is in the air. The charismatic songstress seems to be filled with energy and joy for her new music video. She has a bike and there are lots of flowers.

It's a simple plot with what appears to be a one location. There is a food good thing about this song, it's a bout someone who realizes life is too short and wants to worry less, do more and enjoy more. It's cute and  the right dose of cheer. No guy model allows the song to focus on Latifa and her spring time persona.  

Not even the new and young pop stars can pull a cute spring time music video, Latifa did that once before with that Nizar Qabbani song (Taloomony) And that was more than 15 years ago. So doing a music video with a similar feel but more casual lyrics still works.

BEST Circassian Techno EVER!!!

There are many people who call the Middle East their home yet they are not Arabs, they may speak Arabic, but they do not see themselves as ethnic Arabs. Therefore, they have their own culture, and music and more. The ethnic politics are messy, but I wish people would clam down and chill--music would help them to do just that. Think about that Kurd contestant on Arab Idol, she sang in Arabic and win over people who saw her as talented person regardless of her background.


While there are influence between these cultures, the majority tend to be Muslims who have found themselves in the region. Some want independence, others want recognition, and others want to just make a living.

This video is dedicated to all Abazins, Adyghey, Kabardians and Circassians spread out all over the world! Thought I would share it so that everyone can appreciate this awesome music from the Caucasus. Pass Along, Like, Share, Post.

Mais Hamdan Pokes Fun Of Female Pop Stars--They Hate Her For It

Mais Hamdan may not have any friends in the music business because there is no female pop star that she is unable to impersonate in a comical way. In under five minutes, this Jordanian (family is from Nablus) was able to satirically give us a treat and a portrait of half a dozen songstresses that vary in range, style and age. She started with Nancy Ajram, went to Assalah, did a bit on Elissa, Latifa was next, followed by Samira Said, and there was Haifa Wahbe, and a detour to Nawal Zoghby....

And Najwa Karam was on Mais hit list. You can tell people dig Mais and her spot on tribute to the A list pop stars. I know Arab stars in public, try to have a good humor, but the hate that who gets laugh at our expenses....Mais tries to be cool about it and not insult people.

The best part of the show was when Mais was her very own, she did her new single and boy does she rock? This is her fifth single and she is only getting better.

Two Parrots And One Troubled Cat

This video has been shot somewhere in Egypt, but posted to the net by a Gaza news agency. It's a sad video when a tiny black cat cannot fend for itself when two otherwise gorgeous parrots ganged up on this little creature and not allow it to get away. You can hear even the folks watching this are disturbed by it and try to break the fight.

This is sad, I hope the cat mother spots this and come kick these bullies where it hurts.

Ramy Sabry never drops the ball on being the number one in his career. The hard-working musician does not find shame in going back to the drawing board and reworking an older song of his to make it even better. He is doing that this week with the release of "Masaaltneesh", a song he released last year on his album.

So he went back and rewrote the music and gave it a new flavor. This exactly is like when you are able to make something awesome from the leftovers. It's still a romantic song that gets the singer to draw from his emotional reserve and bleed as the song plays. This song is about the pain lovers endure.

I liked this song when it was released and I thought the lyrics are well-written and have been written by someone who has been in love before. Ramy brought the song a new life with his guitar.

The Always Evolving And Fresh Tamer Abu Ghazaleh @Tamer_AG

In your dictionary, if you wanted to look Indie Arab musician, you may as well find a picture of Tamer Abu Ghazaleh. Born to Palestinian parents in the city of Cairo, He grew up there and legend has it he started to sing at age two and composed music at the tender age of ten. He is  composer of alternative Arabic music, and an Oud, Buzuq, and vocal performer.

Tamer cares for Palestine so much, but he thinks the cause should not mean not paying attention to his music. This is why Tamer seeks alternative music, he just does not want Arabic music as is, he wants to expand its definition and take it into new territories. Uncharted one, most of the time these ideas do not attract producers and companies, but Tamer's music has found a growing audience around the world. I have seen him perform in Washington DC few years back. Now he has already sold out concerts in Beirut, Alexandria, Cairo, Amman and Tunis.

Aside from his own songs and his play on the oud, Mr. Abu Ghazaleh has been an active musical collaborator for many years. Projects include: starting the cross-genre group Kazamada (2010); working with Palestinian & Egyptian artists on Jehar (with Huda Asfour), Duo Buzuq (with Rabea Jubran) and Kalam Mazzika (with Salam Yousry); and performing on Khaled Jubran's Psalms (2005). In 2008, Tamer released Thawret Ala (Revolution of Worry), a collaborative piece of musical theatre that was performed by the Al-Tamye Theatre Group.

I cannot help but enjoy his style of music, and performance. He is an indie storyteller, and growing in Egypt allowed him to have a funny bone that shows in his live performances. The Palestinian within him resilience and resourcefulness. His songs are unpredictable, you can never what he will say next. And you can never tell if he will cry, make you cry or tell a joke. So he sings About love, hate, comfort, boredom, excitement and everything before and after.

On a different note, as Palestinians are used to listening to Egyptian singers, they produce so many more songs and have many more artists. It means a lot to see one of our own entertain the people of Egypt. Tamer is not mainstream, but the well-read people and activists appreciate his talent.

The Good Girl of Lebanese Pop Strikes Beautifully Yara - Ayech Bi Oyouni

Money in the bank is the same thing as Yara. The warmest young and vibrant Lebanese talent can be found dodging paparazzi in her latest music video. See her full of life, fashion, style and grace. The idea is cute and she found her comfort spot once again. Yara lost her pop mojo few years ago, now she returns after her Gulf sabbatical. Where have you gone Yara? But it was worth the wait as her dazzling return comes with fireworks. The new song was an instant favorite of mine, the music video allows it to be the Yara classic it deserves to be.

Needless to say the team behind the song deserves a big credit for the way it came out.

I love the music in her latest single.....and her many stylish looks. I like the bit here she fools the nosy paparazzi. This track is a bit Fayrouz like, and it works well for Yara. She is promising a new solid album. Jad Shwery directed her this once and I think the black and white added a bit of class and vintage depth. I like this Jad, he has shown so much personal development and change of style that sets him to be one of the hardest and most authentic videographers inside Lebanon. And we get a dog, home cooking, shopping, and a guy in a bathtub. I know some will appreciate the elegant shiny ride.

Still Yara is the talent here and Jad highlighted the playful side of her that we only saw once more than six years ago. She was always good at singing, now Jad made her accessible with a sense of humor. So Jad did it again, and Yara got to look like never before.

Tamer Ashour is not your average celebrity. He is a musician who makes good songs, and makes fun music for other talents. Then he makes songs for the masses. Now his last album was released in February of 2011, and since then he has not released one.

It seems he is planning for a comeback year. The guy is a popular artist for private events. He does get to sing at upscale weddings and it does pay his bill. But deep down he is record-maker, he likes to assemble catchy songs that actually put forth something fresh. I like that about him. You would almost never see him give interviews, or do media stuff. People do not make up shit about him. He remains a private person--I do not even know if he is single or married.

The song has a western feel, a bit like these tracks for Amr Diab, or some of these songs you would hear at at Middle East nightclubs that are trying too hard to be cool. Tamer sounds good, but not the favorite shade of his voice that I have come to love. It's a catchy tune, summer song, I still need to process. I think it's a change from the more dramatic heartache songs that Tamer does so well.

However when you listen to it the second time, you enjoy it a bit more. Tamer is a toss up, which wayhe goes as he has two different styles and moods. Enjoy

Lebanese every man Anwar El Amir is visiting the States on tour and tourism. He is a cool guy, cool enough to go and stand on top of the American city of Chicago in that glass window. The Willis Tower on floor 103 to be exact. He performed in three American States, Arizona, Florida and Texas.

But aside from that, he has a new single and it's about being robbed and denied love. It's a cool track and I love the English intro to this song, "guess who is back?" I like him here, he changes gears and gives us some joyful energy drizzled with romance.

This is a smooth song about romance, and life.  Islam sounds like everything you love about Egyptian pop. catchy, high drama, high-production, SUPER SUPER DREAMY and compelling voices.

I like his voice, it has all the elements once loves about an artist who puts his emotions on display as they wander through the past and let us in. I like his music, it has alive written all over it. It's simple, original and most of all fits the style. He has the looks, the talent and the humility to be somebody. The Best Arabic Music Video Goes To This Lady Rock Star #Morocco

She is Samira Said, and you are not. She is Samira Said and the world has to see what she has to offer. The Moroccan diva in my judgment may have starred in the coolest and most incredible music video. There are plenty of music video out there, but in the Arabic scene, they tend to tell stories or dazzle the viewer. The ones who tell a story tend to be dull and predictable. The ones who are meant to dazzle you confuse you and ruin the song for you.

Samira Said and her self-funded team made a music video that not enough money in the world can buy. Rotana may spend millions on a music video, but it won't be this good. There's a vision and there are people who want to do something fresh. Samira helped by being open to trying new things. It all worked for the best and gave her one hell of an image that we have yet to see. Samira looked good, but the music video makes you think about a number of things. For example, this is one reason the song was picked for consideration in a global contest for top 40 songs.

The team who did the funny Gaza video BasyaZalma where they did a satire version of the Van Damm truck ad returns. This time that release a new video celebrating the global hit Happy by Pharrell Williams. Once again, they talk about issues facing Gaza...from border closure, lack of cooking Gaza, electricity, fuel, political gridlock. One thing is the ATM, where dozens of people often line up once their salaries are made available.

See half a dozen kids from Gaza celebrating in a cool way the things they are happy about. They seem to stress the issue of political division with that mural. I am glad that happy dance has made it to Gaza. I like the soccer bit, and the Debak group. These guys do well for themselves, and highlight issues facing Gaza and the rest of Palestine. Note how the rival Spanish teams dance together. Energy is high in this video, note how there are no females in the video--and that might be doing women a service.

One of the most hip music composers in Egypt met one of the coolest female vocalists in Egypt and together they seem to be working on a surprise song for the fans. See How Aziz ElShafhi Just Reinvented Arabic Romantic Songs @azizelshaf3

It feels to my ears as of Egyptian composer cum singer Aziz Elshafie just reinvented the Arabic romantic song. How so, he got you to break a tear, without sounding sad or pathetic himself. Aziz managed to follow a different formula....act surprised by the betrayal and the quick rebound his ex just had served him. Often times, singers want you to feel bad for them....Aziz does it differently, he puts himself in your place--the onlooker and he talks about what he sees when the relation goes south. The song is great because it builds an experience from this song, not just cool music and sensible lyrics, but an emotional connection that goes both ways.

Even his music video is unlike anything else, he tells a story without telling it himself--when he sings he is in black and white....then he walks around picking up the pieces and parting away with his fondest memories by letting go. So Aziz he is both the star of the clip and the commentator done in such a classy way--red roses and a fancy red Mercedes. I love his performances, it's both refreshing and exhilarating. Taking a trip down memory lane is all too common in such songs, but the music video does it in an different way that never loses focus of the original song. For me, what did it is harmony in how everything fits so well to advance the song and the emotional bleeding.

Aziz comes across as an innocent man, the guy who never saw the end coming, she took him by surprise and rendered him speechless. He is not angry not even jaded, just taken aback by the cruelty. The way the song is made allows you to see the man, and the voice not necessary connect them to acting which tends to lower the standard. Aziz got the right song, composed it and then filmed a music video where his voice would make you cry out of sympathy of rage over the human race or at least love. Some credit goes to singer/actor Hossam L Hossainy as he is credited for creative direction.

He is lovable, vulnerable tender soul that is about to survive his heart being crushed by the person he loved the most. She was his first and his very last at least that's how they promised one another. I like how the song feels like an indie love western from the Irish creations. The box one uses to collect after being fired from a job resembles the box Aziz carries...except he found himself departing away not from a job but from a love tale.

While most artists in Morocco are going east to the Gulf, it's something to have one Gulf artist ship himself out to the Arab West and make a name for himself.
