It took one guy from that era to speak about the scores of Egyptian artists of the late 80s and 90s generation past support / indifferent toward the Mubarak regime. Speaking on talk show "La", or "No" Hisham Abbas, the pop sensation and pioneer of light Arabic songs declared that singers of his generations were passive toward the regime.
This era includes singers like Ehab Tawfik, Mostafa Amar, Khalid Agag, Amr Diab and many others who has not spoken against the regime either before or after the revolution. Those singers come from pre internet era so they are a bit old school in terms of not speaking their mind openly as apposed to the young singers who have criticized the regime and took part of the anti Mubarak protests.
Naturally, those singers are either on the B list or the C list, and they have been lazy in recording new material. Abbas dropped another bomb when he confirmed that some singers of his generations have used their friendship with the Mubarak sons to advance their career--was he talking about Amr Diab?
Abbas said he did not go to Tahrir Square becasue his mother and his wife insisted on him not to go out of fear for his life. Thanks Abbas for stating the obvious, it takes courage and we know you are a singer who still has much to give. Abbas sticks it to Tamer Hosny about wanting to make a show about his support for tahrir when he was kickec out, it all failed. Abbas is also against the blacklists and gives those Mubarak loving few a break due to the confusion.
