Dates are fun, and even the ones you eat too. I enjoy all kind of dates, they come from Iraq, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and the UAE. Throughout history Arabs have enjoyed them as a staple, and have traveled miles with nothing to sustain them but those brown sugary fruits.
So do not act surprised when you hear a song written for those dates, this was a big hit song in the 80s and as a young boy, we would drive the car in the streets of the UAE and on both sides of the road, they have giant trees of dates--the red kind. So this song was more than a song it was memories and real life.
Then a young Lebanese singer Dalida Raham chose to sing for this magical fruit and her choice was blessed my the love of the song she crafted. Dalida has the voice for the great length Arabic songs of Tarab style and can perform for hours, she has also done light songs. While Dalida Rahama no longer makes music and has gone missing in action since 2000, we will always remember her as the lady that gave dates an opportunity to be sexy.
داليدا رحمه يا بلح زغلولي
