I love winter songs, ever since Fayrouz had that amazing song and many Arab generations have tried to make the next winter song, Elissa tried it, and so has Myriam Faris, now comes the next best thing and the hope of Egyptian music industry with a new winter song. Donya Samira Ghanem released a single form her upcoming album. The song about two people who want to call off their love, but are afraid to say it. Finally they get enough courage to deliver the bad news.
It's cozy song that reads like a gifted novelist would write a new character, describing all the details, and even the most minute pulse has been captured. There is a male voice that you can hear for a second, but his name is not mentioned. The song has been written by celebrity song lyricist Ameer Taeema, the music is for Hisham Gamal and the music arrangement is for Mado. Together they have created a bittersweet song about the down of a love tale.
This is a warm song and the best part about it is Donia's voice. She makes the song far warmer and a bit more personal. It's a bit mellow, I like some energy, but the point of the song is to give you that feeling. The feeling when it's cold and raining outside and you are under your warm blanket--who wants to leave that? "Qesst Sheta" recreates the audio version of that feeling.
I gave the song a listen after another, and the end holds an epic ending.....once he broke up with her, does she tell him that she does not need this love and came to say the same thing? Should she be more concerned with her pride? The emotional complexity of this song is like no other. The ending is pretty poetic--the outpouring rain was nothing compared to her tears.
As for her upcoming album, it took two years to put together, and it will feature 12 track. I have heard good things and I know this will be a great project for the super fun actress cum songstress. From what I have heard so far, I am ready to welcome the all-Egyptian Elissa, this means she has moves to the emotionally complex mature romance songs.
