#Rotana Café Dubai Opening Where Business Triumphs Over Art

If assholes can fly--then the grand opening for Rotana Cafe Dubai would be an airport. The Gigantic Saudi entertainment network opened yet another cafe among its franchisees. A 2005 concept, where people can go and enjoy music while ordering food and drinks--the place will also be a venue for various music functions.

Big names of Arabic music who works with the Rotana lable showed up....Haifa Wehbe, Najwa Karam, Dina Hayek, Walid Shami, Fares Karam Tamer Hosny, Jannat, Shatha Hassoun and few other singers--I got to name Aballah Roushid. This was like a prom event for entertainers who does not seem to get work right now. They were happy to show up and support the company that pays their bills.

This is no original concept...while western music companies collect most of their money from ticket events and legal sales of music, Arab companies make their money from ringtones and Kabob platters.  As for the opening this was a successful event and most invited guests were in attendance. Perhaps the biggest missing Rotana stars are, Kadem Al Saher, Amr Diab and Elissa.

I agree that record labels like Rotana don't seem to be very interested in legal music downloads other than ringtones, but I thought Arab musicians made a lot of their income off live performances, especially private-party concerts. If a singer is under contract to Rotana, does the label get a kickback when he or she does a wedding gig in the course of promoting an album? Maybe it depends on their contract? The fact that so many stars showed up for this event makes me think their contracts made them attend...
